A3 1.8 t quattro

Hello guys and girls!
Just purchased a little a3 1.8t quattro and I have a question for you! Is there such a thing as 'cold start' on these? It sounds to me like the exhaust manifold is blowingbut the chap I bought it from said its the cold start. When hot is does smell a little in the car! Any thoughts or advise please. Regards nath.

hi there, its probably your secondary air pump which runs when you first start your car it helps warm the cats on the exhaust I believe. if it noisey its probably leaking air a common problem (just fixed mine today)

its located infront of the engine drivers side start the car get down near the drivers front corner and you will probably hear it. its not a very big job to do. do a search for secondary air pump on hear and you will find how to fix it for next to no money.
