Hi everyone,
My rear calipers are screwed now as I live near the coast and the salty air seems to have made them seize up or are just about to seize. The front discs could do with replacing too, but I can't figure out if the front calipers need changing...is there a rule of thumb for this or is replacing the rear calipers a good indicator of the fronts needing doing too?
Checking out the prices online, it looks like:
front discs and pads £75
rear discs and pads £41
front calipers £86 each (£172)
rear calipers £103 each (£206)
I never want take the cheap option when it comes to brakes (I once owned a mk2 Escort with brakes that cost more than the car), but £206 for rear calipers is a bit much, and considering S3 front brake setups are £210 from eBay. If they are seized, is a rebuild kit a good idea or is it just putting off the inevitable need to replace the caliper in a few months when the winter sets in again?

I have a mate that runs a VAG garage and will get him to price things up and another who works at a TPS type shop who pays trade +15% for parts, but as always, I like to hear the ASN views first.
