    revs problems on 1.8t .. ??

Hi guys i'm new to the forums as i have just got myself a new toy, The audi a3 1.8T 150bhp version ..., When i picked the car up i never really noticed much as i only drove in 1 mile home, Today i went out and had a proper tinker...

I found that the induction kit that had been "bodged" on was infact like a foam sleeve or some sort... it was pants anyways and in terrible con so i removed it and put a cone induction kit on that i had lying around, Also the standard dump valve was broken (had a crack in the plastic) So i got my old bailys out the cubboard and fitted that and just blanked off the hole on the intake.

I then took it out for a spin, All seems to work ok, DV dumps ok etc BUT if i sit the car and give it a rev the revs drop as normal and level out were it should then abour 3 seconds later the revs suddenly drop out and the car picks it back up to normal again and then it will sit at idle fine.

The second problem is that the throttle response is a little odd, When driving i cant get it to sit behind a car at say 30mph as soon as i take my foot off any more to say slow down it feels jumpy and when i go to speed up by say 2 mph to keep with traffic its jumpy ... Not like a missfire jumpy almost like the revs arnt ready for the increase on throttle... its really hard to explain... And its not like a deadspot jumpy either. Btw the filter is directly on were the sensor is.

Sorry if im not very clear its finding a good way to explain it, But anyways i thought id come here as im sure someones had the same problems at some point !

Any help would be appreciated and any advice on better dv's and air filtration would be good :-)

    Thanks in advance peeps !!

I checked that mate as that was my first thought but the jerkyness isnt powerfull enough to be a mount, its quite minor but causes problems as you can't drive smoothly unless you are half throttle through the gears

Ok so today ive had a tiny bit of luck :-) , My mate has a fault reader thingy and he said he would check out my audi while turning the airbag light of for me, Now 2 faults were on it, Something about the power which is all bin ok'd, The second was a MAF sensor fault - Intermittent ... So we cleared the faults off the system and then i took it for a drive and now i have proper boost, Not as much as i'd like but i know its only small turbo's on these, No idea why it wasn't boosting properley before clearing a maf sensor code... does it reset the maf or ecu ??

Also the rev problems are gone, the only time its lumpy is when you first start it it will run a tiny bit lumpy but give it a tiny rev and it idles fine from then on till another cold start ...

the dump valve has to recirculate, are you dumping to atmophere? thats bad and the ecu will mess about??

Yes its atmospheric dump valve but ive read up and because ive got the AGU engine it should be fine, ive tried it with the recirc valve with the same results, so i bought a brand new recirc valve and yet still the same results so i know its not the valve messing the maf up ... i think i just need a new one in general tbh as its a 14 yr old car

Please help me peeps... Got some serious problems today !!!

Had a bit of advice to my rev problem and was told to take the plug off the MAF and if it runs better its the maf, Now i done that but altho it was drivable it had no boost and no power over just toutching the throttle... when i plugged the maf back in same result, I took the maf off and used some pressurised cleaner but noticed a part of the little plastic sensor peice (electronic board looking thing that measures the air inside the maf) came out like it was really brittle, Now because it was only a tiny bit better with the maf unplugged im worried theres another problem somewere ???

As i was told it would run fine and seen on youtube etc that they still had boost with this unplugged ... I have none... HELP ...

fit a maf as yours is broken, genuine vag only!! fit a recirculating dumpvalve you are losing air your ecu thinks it has so it cant be good mate mr2 turbos blow up if the recirc pipes disconnected. and reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for half hour.

Right ive had a little bit of luck (Due to your advice i might add so kudos on that) I've fitted the standard recurc valve but it made no difference so i took it off and gave it a check over and wala !!! a nice crack around the nipple on the top of the valve, For now untill my new one comes ive superglued the crack and fitted it, i now get a car that runs like a standard 1.8 if im honest... You can feel like the boost wants to kick in but after that its got nothing... no power. I've ordered a maf which should be here tomo so i will update you guys BUT i dont think thats whats getting the boost down as ive read so many posts on here saying once the maf is unplugged and youve done the ecu reset (battery disconnect for 30mins) I't will run with boost IF the maf is faulty... Which its not... does the standard map on the ecu restrict boost ??

if the ecu senses something wrong it will cut boost amongst over safety precausions.
