Hi all,

I have just got a 1.6 Petrol 2001 Audi A3 and it is fine apart from the temp gauge never goes over 70 when driving...but if you leave it idle it will go up to 90 but soon as you start driving it goes back down.

Heaters do blow hot air so I am unsure if its the thermostat or the Coolant Temp Sensor. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Thermostats gone.

Good luck, do a search and there are how too's.

/thread.

If it is the thermostat, i can tell you it will cost about £40 - £50 as the thermostat on the 1.6 is map controlled and has an electrical connection. It is, however, very easy to change. Much easier than on the 1.8 engine.

Hi guys the code is avu

Thanks for the help.

the AVU engine uses a map controlled thermostat. Part number 06a121114

Thankyou for the help guys...would if be worth replacing the temp sensor also?

Can anyone tell me were its located?

Thanks

I wouldn't bother about temp sender, but if you want to you may as well do it when the coolant is drained down.

as for the thermostat, remove the engine cover and you will see it at right hand side of the engine at the top. Remove two torx bolts, unclip the wiring and out it comes.
