Non starting A31.8T

Good afternoon,

The missus has been having trouble with her A3, it starts then dies instantly.........A yellow circle on the dash blinks(car / key sign). I take it this is some sort of immobiliser fault.

you have to mess agound with the key in the barrel for a few minutes then it will start.

Can anybody confirm it is the immobiliser playing up, is it true the VAG immobilser is linked to the ECU?? Thinking an easy solution would be to have this ripped off & an aftermarket on installed.

All suggestions greatfully recieved.

it could be the ignition barrel reader on its way out, pretty common issue.

Is that a expensive one to replace fella, i suppose Audi have to sort it.....................I want to buy a rear beam for my escort LOL

Think it cost about 60 quid to have my ignition barrel replaced .. fortunalty wasn't paying /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well had the car up at a mate's Stealership today, its deffo the ingnition barrel reader! £208 all in.............Thats with discount, and no charge for the fault finding (Audi usually charge over 40 notes just to check!Eeek ).

Not whats needed this close to xmas to be honest, but can't complain!! Touch wood this is all we've every had to spend out on fault for the old girl...............Well played to all that posted (all 2 of you!!)
