The time has come for the beloved ess to go up for sale for no other reason but to buy myself a property in the new year and pay off the car loan.

I plan on buying another s3 in 2 years when Im in a better position financially.

Now I just want you guys to tell me if im being silly trying to sell now as in be4 new year etc and see if im being realistic with the asking price.

Bad points are stone chips on the front bumper and alloys have light kurbing.


I have covered 8000 miles while I have owned this car for the last 16 months.


Im gonna advertise for £11 995 no offers.

Price seems a little on the high side to me but if your in no rush to sell it may as well give it a go. Can always drop it if you get no interest.

how bout advertising for 10 500 - 11 000?

i didnt think the import factor wud matter especially if the`buyer knew there stuff theyd know there was no diff!

the pre face lifts r going for round 10.

i think i might go a lil lower.

Has it had the timing belt/waterpump done? That's the first thing a buyer will want to know at that mileage. If it hasn't then you can knock off £600 immediately, plus for an import it's too high to start with. There are sooo many S3's for sale at the moment.

import only plays a part if its between 2-3 years old, as imports only come with a 2yr manufacturers warranty. Other than that, theres no difference. How was it imported? personally, or by a dealer?

Age is in its favour, so is the facelift factor. Imports are usually fully loaded, any other options?

Only thing going against it is the milage, and to be honest its quite a big against.

I'd personally think what your asking is not unreasonable, especially as its a facelift. As to whether or not you can find the right person....

It's not just the warranty on imports people are still put off by them. If there's 2 identical S3's and one is an import most people will go for the UK car (not me by the way)

most people are happy once you tell them that its actually 100% UK Spec, and that the only difference is that it didnt arrive on the same lorry as the 'UK' ones...

That's because most people who buy a jap import think along the lines of "I want a car that goes like stink, looks like /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif and does less than 10mpg".

major service was done at 60k which involved timing belt/water pump and camblet/

it was personaly imported from germany by the guy who i bought it off who was in the army and he took very good care of it.

having researched autotrader i think 11 500 is a good starting point as it is a facelfit - got 9 months tax and 6 months mot and four brand new michelin piolot sports.

Andymac its only people like you who don't realise there is a difference between Grey imports (japs) and legitimate Imports new into the UK. Mine came with 3 yrs extended unlimited mileage and its an import, it was imported by Scott Audi of Sloane Square and registered new in the UK in 2001. All options except Sat Nav.

I have also spoken to an audi specialist who is willing to pay me good money for my import. So i really don't think it matters. Plus they all come from the same factory.

nah, he understands fine, its just the majority of other people who dont.. mine too is an import, and because of the way it was imported, like yours, its not recorded as an import.

i understand completely where andymac's coming from. uneducated people will see it being an import as a negative factor, when in reality there is 0% difference.

Andy is just stating it from the average buyers point of view which wud have been my opinion on imports b4 i read up on here that there is no difference between them.

like any sale il have to hold out for the best offer as im not in a hurry to sell and am still in conflict as my sensible side tells me to sell and the devil in my loves my car to bits!

I've no idea if Audi ever did this (probably not), but I seem to recall at one point VW dealers were deliberately depressing the prices of parallel imports by offering less for them on trade-in and being awkward over warranty claims, purely to protect the official importer's profits. Hence in part the negative image in the mind of Joe public.

Jap imports are a different kettle of fish entirely, they often have minimal rustproofing and underseal, and the parts are different to UK spec ones and thus difficult to get hold of. None of which helps the image of imports!

There are thousands and thousands of parallel imported TT's though, and it doesn't seem to affect their prices.

(some, allegedly etc etc) Audi dealers will do anything to get out of warranty claims and offer as little trade in as possible.

I've even heard reports on here about some dealers saying that they dont accept imports at-all as trade-ins, as they dont approve them... weird, especially as mine is an "Audi-Approved" import...

I just sold my 2003 S3 which was in mint condition with only 27,000 miles for £15500 for the same reason as you.
It broke my heart, but it had to go. I reckon the car was worth at least £17,500, but couldn't shift it.

I sold it to a dealer who now has it on the forecourt for £18,999!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

im having serious doubts selling as it wudnt really be worth it having done some P&L calculations!

I noticed from your original post you had the car down for £11995 no offers. In my opinion it is always a bad idea to put no offers when you are selling a car, it is much better to put ono even if you are not willing to budge much on the price. With an advert that states you are willing to discuss the price you are more likely to get people to come and look at the car, once the buyer sees the car they may love the car and you may sell it buy kocking just £100 off the advertised price.
