    help! timing belt

    hi guys, on my s3 is the timing belt meant to be loose when the car is not running?
    in other words does the s3 have a auto tensioner? thanks

    If you meant the run of belt facing to the front of the car then yes... this can go a little slack when you turn the engine off..

    Tensioner is on the other side of the belt run... when the engine is running the rotation takes up the slack between the cam pulley, water pump and crank pulley... tensioner roller and damper takes up the non tensioned side of the belt

    okay thanks, i thought i had better ask now while my car is off the road and in peices, thanks also i know that you seem to know alot about these cars, is there any special torque driveneeded for getting the drive shafts off? thanks
