    Best suited clutch

    Evening all,

need some advice, my S3 AMK has done 95k, i have had a stage 1 remap and its pushing out 274bhp & 287lb/ft. As you can imagine the clutch has disagreed with the new power and am in search of a suitable replacement. I was looking at a Oem replacement, but some have said that will be fine with the bhp but the torque could be to much for it. So I was looking at a Sachs Kevlar clutch kit which apparently can take more heat and is for a stage 1 remap. I don't think I'm going to go any further in modifying so just want a clutch that will last now.
    any advice would be good.
    Thanks

    Hi,

i too had the same problem as you last month.. AMK engine stage 1 remap however my figures are less.. 261bhp & 281lb/ft. After doing a bit of research I decided to just stick with the standard clutch.. Went for the LUKS clutch and flywheel kit (eBay @ 379.99 iirc) so far so good.. Probably done 500 miles, foot to the floor in 3rd and 4th with no slipping at all.

    Hope this helps!

274bhp from a stage 1- amazing figures that. What map have you got and from who from if you don't mind me asking?

in terms of a clutch- have a read of tufftys build thread as he has a decent clutch set up that is oem feel and handles his 400+bhp and torque very well.

It's a custom stage 1 which I went to AMD to have done.
yeah I think tufftys clutch set up is probably a little to rich for me.

I'm running the Sachs Stage 1 Carbon Kevlar clutch kit on my stage 1 S3 and all seems ok at the moment, touch wood!

Kit cost me £400 delivered and labour cost wasn't much due to my engine being removed anyway. Although a clutch job would usually be charged at circa £200 labour i would've thought.

touch wood? Are you expecting something to go wrong? Haha.

Is a single or dual flywheel the best choice? Is Sachs a quality brand over the LUK?

Sods Law - Always gets you when you least expect it. Speaking from experience of tinkering with cars ha.

Sachs is believed to be a high quality brand. LUK is the OEM supplier to Audi.

I fitted a dual mass flywheel again, purely for the fact that i've heard mixed feedback on single mass conversions.

I did look at DIY.. There's a guide on how to do it on VWVortex, but decided against it as I don't have access to ramps or a garage and I knew I'd get stressed out when it started raining haha.

Quote from A VW/Audi specialist was just shy of £800 (they supplied all parts), which included new clutch salve cylinder, new fluid, new gearbox fluid etc.. Car drives perfect now so didn't mind spending the money. As said above, the LUKs kit is exactly the same as OEM just doesn't carry the VAG badge.

You may be able to get it done cheaper if you buy the kit from eBay.. But then you lose the garage warranty I believe.
