S3 vs Civie Type R

I know this has probably been asked hundreds of times but i know a couple of people with Civic Type Rs who recon they could take me in them. So whats the story only had mine a week so i dont really know ?

I m sure the S3 will be heavier but it still has more BHP & higher Torque figures.

Thanks

Matt

If there was a prize for the 'most frequently re-occuring thread' then this would surely win!

So to sum up:
The CTR is a track car, very very noisy & uncomfortable on any journey, has to be thrashed all the time to get anything out of it.
The S3 is close performance wise but far more refined for everyday driving.
If you were choosing between the 2 then you obviously haven't driven both of them as they are like chalk & cheese in every department.

oh i see so both cars in standrad form i would imagine the type r to take the lead slightly but top end fall back.

Matt

ps oh on a track wheel 4 wheels driving is better than 2 so i imagine the S3 would be quicker.

Out on the road, they would be pretty similar in a straight line, probably comes down to driver with slickest gear change, show a couple of bends though, and the CTR should disappear into the distance, unless the road was wet of course.

olso dont forget most CTR drivers have their brains up their ar*&%. The only one ive ever had a race with was that much of a loon I just let him go, then pasted him on the next roundabout with my wife laughing at him .

But to sum up in a dry drag race the type R is quicker on a rolling start.

When it's wet the extra traction from the S3's quattro system will really start to show. I have a remapped S3 and have never seen the traction control activate, even in the wet. When it was in the garage I got a non-quattro 2.0TDi A3 on loan and managed to spin the wheels in the dry within 5 minutes of getting into it.

You might want to check its installed in your car or if there is something wrong with it. Or perhaps I should get mine checked out.

Mine activates very easily, so quickly in fact, I think it cuts the power before the 4wd has engaged! Its annoying at roundabouts. I have to switch ESP off.

I was quite impressed I got mine to come on while accelerating in 2nd the other day from a standing start in a straight line!

Al B so does mine mate, i switch off ESP to pull out of junctions and turnings where necessary. ESP light has been on quite a few times recently.

The thought of the cost of a new clutch ensures that my traction control is never needed!

Maybe I need to try harder

Re: S3 vs Civie Type R

Anyway thought i would let you guys know, me & my mate had a little play last night & to be honest there didnt seem to be much in it. The S3 lays down the power better (less loss of traction compared to the type r). So it handles better, applys power better, acceleration theres nothing in it plus you get all the toys that the tin can doesnt have.

I m happy.

Hi Matt,

Is that a standard S3 vs Standard CTR?

I figured that would be the case if both drivers had similar levels of commitment which I guess you did as he's a mate!

Re: S3 vs Civie Type R

Its the old power-to-weight ratio thing again.

Its like our Golf Gti anniversary, 180bhp, it easily keeps up with my standard S3.

Also Clio 182's, again, nothing in it from a rolling start.

The anniversary golf was a nice car i would consider buying one but agin front wheel drive will let down on the twists & turns.

LOL love the definition of the CTR there, yes, toys, refinement and power... the overall package of the S3 takes some beating..
