    Drivers warning

My wife was driving to Kent last nite & the car flashed up a warning to say she'd been driving 2 hrs and again at 3hrs but she couldn't switch it off! Any ideas how to cancel it for when she drives bk ?
    Cheers

Just click the switch on the end of the stalk (that being the right hand one - the DIS controls) when it shows. It can't be "turned off" permanantly if that's what you mean though.

Tell her to have a break before 2 hours, like a coffee break at a service station, then it will never flash up! Driving for 3 hours non stop is stupid, have a break ffs, and drive safely.

    That is all.

Is there really any need? I purely enquired how to cancel this , I'm sure she is more than capable of deciding when a break is req'd much like myself , if it was not safely achievable I'm positive the HGV industry as heavily regulated as it is would not be able to run a straight 4.5 hr stint before a break .

Does you car have a 56mph limiter? Do you drive at reduced speeds to other traffic ie 40mph on a regular 60mph single carriageway? 2 hours non stop motorway speed driving is tiring. I have actually sat behind hgv's at 56mph for long stretches and its a LOT less tiring.

I'm going to try and sit on the fence here as tbh I have driven a lot long than 2 hours on the motorway before and felt the same as I got in my car after the journey. Well apart from feeling a lot less richer after replacing the fuel I've burnt

I'd say it's down to the person.....

Some people can lose interest in something very quickly....therefore the mind would tend to wonder off into other thoughts and take their attention off the road and possibly wonder into a sleep if feeling tired/drousy.

The majority of car enthusiasts and people who enjoy driving will probably have a larger tolerance when it comes to driving long distance....as not only do we look at this as a hobby as apposed to a chore- but personally I am always keeping the brain focused on other cars....the surrounding scenery - road conditions etc.

The people who carry on driving whilst tired/sleepy are the type of people who wouldn't think twice about drink driving - which when your that tired gives the same reactions times as a drunk.

You can't really say 2 hours of driving and that's it- have a break and a coffee or you'll crash! Everyone's risk is different - and it's upto each one of us to use our common sense on whether or not it's safe to drive in that condition. The major issue for me is unlit motorways without functional cat eyes- madness I think and increases people's risk to drop of to sleep or lose concentration.

    Ditto Kwistof.

I too have regularly driven more than two hours without feeling at all tired! As said, some people actually enjoy driving and 2 hours can fly by in the right conditions. If my car was warning me to take a break every two hours, I'd be back to Audi to have the warning disabled. It's not a Law\Rule, so there should be a way to opt out &\or adjust the interval to suit the individual.

I can understand your view all be it not entirely correct the speed limiter is also to safe guard against 40 tonne truck doing stupid speeds without the limiter we both know it would be easily possible for them to join us in the outside lane and to put a safe guard in place when it comes to stopping distances , same as the speed restrictions which apply to vans if you follow the letter to the law.
