    Engine's transfer

Hi all I have a A3 1.8t agu engine for sale and a friend has asked if it will go in a A4 1.8t as his has snapped the belt. So he would like to put the block and head in and use his turbo and manifolds will this work.
    Thanks all

Yup all exchangeable. There are differences with the cam cover which is worth noting when doing the swap.
I quite often say I'm going to do things.

    Then never do them.

Nope, won't go. 058 and 06a different enginers, mounts won't swap over, different flywheels and clutches

How certain of that are you?

Why won't the mounts swap over? Friend of mine used a Passat engine in his Mk2 Scirocco, I was sure the blocks were the same.

the 058 block used in the A4 is derived from early VAG 2ltrs (ABF etc) you pillock lol... fancy asking if Marks is sure... LMAO!!!... he has forgotten more about A4's than you actually know... ;P

Transverse is 06A block, inline is 058... do some research...

Really you want to get into this?
The later a4 is based upon an 06b unit which shares the same mounts but is alloy block.

058 block is external waterpump and almost identical to the KR/ABA style block and as such will drop in on the same mounts but you have to use the flywheel and clutch from the donor. If the 06a unit is used then you need to use mounts from an ibiza to make it fit. I would get technical and produce pictures but can't be bothered.

Sell it to your mate, Jardo says it will fit, I'm sure he knows best....

Robin bought an 058 block because he couldn't find a decent priced 06A.

As it happens, it's bloody lucky he did, because the mounts are totally different, and the 058 went straight in using OE mounts on the engine side.

Had he followed the plan and bought an 06A he'd have had a whole load more work and had to make up mounts.

    So yea, they're pretty different.

in the boot yeah. Not under the bonnet and connected to the chassis with bespoke work to get it into the A4.

As stated the A4 one will go into the rocco as will the 06a with the right mounts, there is no such thing as the correct mounts to fit the 06a into a b5. If you use B6 mounts you are opening another actual can or worms, all this for a cheap engine, AEBs are like £200 complete nowadays.

[Rant]Nope, I refuse now. Mark and PT are having a huge case of unnecessary PMT, as are you actually.

A simple explanation could have done, but nope...that's not the ASN way. People are allowed to run around asking the same freaking questions every single day, but Jardo doesn't understand why a bit of hard work and adaptions mean something can't be done and BOOOOOOOM like a ton of bricks.

Cheers for the explanation Mark. NOW I understand.

    It's you doing the whining.

Don't think that just because you're power to weight is up I won't kick your ass. I'm a black belt, this one gang wanted me to join because I've got skills with a bow staff.
