Audi dealer service or Audi independent?

Hi

My S3 is coming up for its second AVS service. It's done 35,000 miles and is classified as AVS Major.

Audi main dealer has quoted £410 inc VAT.

Now, I assume an Audi independent like AMD will charge less, but how much is the Audi dealer Service History worth when it comes to selling the car? Probably more than the saving in going to an independent for the service.

What do you guys think?

I went through this exact situation last month. Was quoted £360 from Docklands Audi, although this did not include Haldex oil and filter (extra £160). AmD quoted £376 for the full works. As I was going to AmD anyway to get my remap I got them to do it. Many people on here did not really rate FASH and thought a good specialist (like AmD) was as good if not better when it came time to sell.

Considering Audi asked me if my S3 was petrol or diesel (!!), I feel very happy with my decision to go to AmD.

That's the thing. The people on here know a specialist is as good / better. But do the general public? Particularly if someone is looking at my motor with independent service history versus someone else's with FASH stamps.

I tend to think it's narrowing my market so I would have to drop my price.

Not thinking of selling yet by the way, but will do within the next couple of years.

Well, you might have to drop the price a little but really you have to weigh in how much extra you will pay for the Audi stamps. Seeing as the S3 is likely to be bought by an enthusiast anyway, you might not be compramising too much using a specilist.

For me it's about the peace of mind that it's been well looked after and that I've saved money in the process. I also don't plan to sell for some time so I think in the long run I will be better off.

Up to you though!

Yeah, once you've had a few "issues" with the local stealer you'll soon see the other benefits of a good specialist other than the money.

I've found the price was about the same between my local independent and the dealer, but the indy gave me an honest opinion about bits of my car which aren't in A1 condition e.g. the PAS pump and the exhaust centre section. Indy said: nothing to worry about, dealer said change it all for new stuff!

My local indy also has some interesting drag racing veedub type 2 vans to look at while you're there! But no loan cars. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

hi monkey, thats just one audi dealer. you will be shocked if you phone around other dealers. i got the same AVS service from a good audi dealership for £270inc VAT others were saying up to £400.. just phone around your dealers and that way u can save a ton in your pocket and get the stamp on ur audi.
