    Hi mate
Wheel choice is very personal thing and i think the reps look nice.
    But they weigh a lot.
if your modding your car to go quicker, try reading a little about wheel weight and the effects it has.
Lighter wheels can be had very cheap if you know what your looking for, and a decent refurb for a 200 quid.

    Hi Mate
heres a link i looked at while searing for my wheels.
Between 7 and 8 kg is good. stock wheels weigh around 12kg and reps even more.
17" Wheel weights - Mechanical Database
I ended up with superleggeras 17 inch for 150 and refurbed at 150.
18s give a crashy ride in my imho.
But like i said wheels are a very personal choice.
    Good luck
But like i said wheels are a very personal choice

I always thought it was a bit of a myth about what could happen with replica wheels such as BBS copies. However as it happened to Welly and he posted pictures etc the reality hit home!

I suppose it's not too bad if you buy them new and come with some sort of warranty though.

As you can see, the damage externally was relatively minor, it was the damage to the suspension that was bad.

Pretty much everything snapped, as you can imagine the bill from BMW was rather excessive, meaning she was written off.

What you guys don't know is Welly hit a monster pot hole and felt a wobble so decided to put his foot down to see if it would fix it.

    He fixed it alright...

    Heroic work.

I suppose we could/would all do something similar in the same situation - I mean it's not as if he was tracking it whilst it happened.

e.g Hit a pot hole...wonder wtf give it a little squirt to see how badly that affected the tracking - and then OOOpppsssie!

If my M3 had a shake from hitting a pot hole my immediate reaction would be to slow the **** down as quickly as possible.

I love Alex, more than I love most people. But a large amount of damage could have been potentially avoided with a bit of quick, sensible thinking.

Lets say my A3 developed a shake, I put my foot down to see if it improves with speed and my wheels fell off and I ploughed into a car. I'm at fault for making the wrong decision at the wrong time and everyone thinks I am a dick. Alex is just lucky nobody else was involved.

And as such I think to say "**** reps wrote off his M3" is maybe not quite so accurate. His reaction to an unfortunate issue cause 97% of the damage seen below.

In my opinion, from what I have been told. Of cause...

If it was an oem wheel or genuine lm i'm sure the outcome would have been alot better though, as in just needing the tracking redone and not writing the car off.

Not saying i would pay the money of geniune lms though either.

Got to love the 'replica' debate. How often do you see a replica alloy fail in the way it has on Welly's car? Or is the once enough to tell you they are no good? Seriously, there must be hundreds, possible thousands of cars worldwide driving around with BBS LM reps, they all must me crapping themselves after seeing one example of a failure!

I'd not hesitate to buy a set, but LM's are just not my thing, I must have had 10 different sets of replica rims in my 18 years of driving, and not one has failed, I must have buckled a few with the low profile tyres, but again, it's not a sign of a weak alloy, the pothole I hit was huge, doubt an OEM rim would remain straight with the same impact!

The ONLY difference in most cases is the price you pay! Ok, a genuine set of BBS or OZ rims will probably weigh a little less, and have a better paint finish, but @£2k for a new set with quality tyres, it's obvious why some of us choose to buy replicas!

Must of been a crater rather than a pothole to destroy a wheel on both sides of the car though lol.

I have had rotas on my hondas but when i bent one on a pothole i then bought some volk te37s which were alot stronger as were forged instead of cast.

    Either way i ain't buying any lm's as i prefer my rc's

I would have thought its not ONLY just the paint and price that's different but as you say the weight - which would be down to the materials they use would it not? Plus the fact they would have actually tested the alloy wheel for thousands of miles in all sorts of conditions and different vehciles.....I mean could you say that about the eBay sellers or other makes of replica wheels? Then there's the whole warrantee and guarantee if anything was to go wrong!

Anything that's not genuine and is a copy is more than likely going to be worse quality when compared to the real thing and not last as long or perform as well. Otherwise no one would bother buying the genuine stuff in the first place! Just look at anything that's fake!

As I said above- reps have been a massive myth for me for many years and welly was the first and only person I'd heard of to end up like that! It's not like its a quick and easy fix either if it was to go wrong and fail....

So I'm going to look for dished wheels like BBS LMs but from another reputable manufacturer, if I get them from rimstyle, wheelbase or such like I should be ok

Same here but BBS CH reps. Don't be a d*&K and don't drive over every pot hole and you'll be fine! Worst thing to happen to mine is a bit of kerb rash and I still kick myself for doing it.
