Fuel gauge over reading by 1/2 a tank

I have an A3 1.9tdi that over reads by 1/2 a tank. Bizarrely when you get just below the half a tank mark on the display, the fuel light comes on and it's time to refuel.

So, having read lots of posts and comments I replaced the fuel pump and fuel sender unit and still no luck. I haven't owned the vehicle long and it's alway had this problem. I re-aligned the arrows on the pump with where the old was aligned.

I am out of ideals now. Any suggestions?

Fuel sender doesn't look happy.. Probably worth having a look at it or changing it. It's inbuilt to the fuel pump.

Ive got the same problem on my 1.9TDI. Didnt even realise until i ran out of fuel!

Ive been told that the speedo cluster is misconfigured and needs to be reconfigured. I plan to upgrade to a full display so im leaving it as is for now. Hopefully a new cluster with full display will sort it out.

But for you im not sure if you can get is reconfigured via vagcom? im sure someone will know and set us both straight! Good luck with the new motor!
