Hi all, currently have an annoying intermittent misfire at around 3800rpm upwards on my S3, been to the dealer and had roadside out none of them seem to know what it is, feels like i have a coil pack or spark plug issue, however called AMD today and they said to check the wiring that runs anywhere from the coil packs along the top of the engine within heat range of the turbo as they have had melting issues before, and guess what, the exposed/coloured wires that protrude from the end of the insulated loom running into the coil pack connectors are all melted showing exposed copper and possibly touching, there a 4 wires going to each coil and it is only the final 10mm or so that is affected, so back to the dealers under warranty.
May be worth checking yours, good work AMD.

If you look carefully at the 4 wires leading into the plugs one or two may have a hairline split in the insulation, this is enough to give the melting a start point and the insulation slowly starts to crack and melt towards the main loom.
The only treatment for this is to heat shrink the individual wires or to replace the whole loom which can cost up to £500, both jobs very fiddly.
