air bag light and wing mirror?

Hi Everyone

I've had 2 problems since I bought my A3 quattro. The airbag warning light is on and the heater on the o/s wing mirror doesn't work.

Is this a common complaint - any tips on a cheap fix?

the heater on the wing mirror may just need a new mirror glass that includes the heater and a temp sensor, might be worth checking power is getting to these connections before buying a new one though. I think it was about £25 from Audi for the correct one for my S3.

As for the airbag not a clue, and I hate to say sounds expensive.

The a3 I bought has it's airbag light on too. I was told that it is all still intact but there is a fault with the electronic device that triggers the seat belts to halt when the air bags fire.
My audi garage doesn't want to know. All they can do is fit an entirely new airbag system. I think I was quoted £800 but not certain.
The reason... if they fiddled with the current airbag system and then it didn't work in an accident I would have the right to take them to court.

Airbag warning light - worse case scenario is a knackered Airbag control module, which will cost £££s as mentioned above to fix, why would Audi not be interested in fixing it?, it's money for christs sake!!!??!?!?, they are talking ****** /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif
Of course, it's usually a loose wire or connection under the passenger seat, caused by a rear passenger or after the car's had a good interior valet. You really need a vag-com(VAG diagnostic tool) to find out for sure, this will actually tell you if it's the module or a loose connection.

PS. when the airbag light is on, NONE of the airbags are active in the event of an accident!

I agree with Jojo - there is a connection between the seat and the seatbelt to the airbag warning light. It went away when I fitted a new belt.

Audi will only fix my air bag system by replacing the entire system... this is ****** you say???
I had it looked at by a specialist who plugged it into the computer. He told me the fault was in the electrical device in the drivers side door pillar that pulls the seat belt tight when the airbag fires.

jojo - what would you suggest I do? Return to the dealer and try and pursuade them to replace the part to fix the fault highlighted by the computer???

I would say you should go back to the dealer and explain what you have found and ask them to replace the whole pretensioner system on that side, presumably they should be happy to do that assuming the error is cleared once changed.

PS... you want that bit to work, it really help in accidents, probably helped Jedi Knight walk away from his crash!

Proves how much faith they have in their own diagnostic equipment and parts fitted to their cars - very odd, sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one, or don't want the hassle, cos it's a big job? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I would try an independant specialist to see if they would undertake the job, or as said in the post above, go back to your dealer and insist that you only want the part showing an error by vagcom replaced.

We had somebody in once for an MOT and Ingrams had put the light out saying if it came back on it would need this, that and the next thing. I put it out for them - it was the driver side airbag. I asked them if they moved the seat much and yes, they did as her husband was a lot taller so I told them about it possibly just being the connector under the seat.
