As the title says really,

Im not comfortable attempting to do the rods myself. and I dont know how to do the timing either, so the last thing I want to do it give it a try... start it, then the engine starts falling out the exhuast!

Im looking to buy rods in a few weeks times. Just looking for labour cost of getting the job done. I have a VAG specialist near me who can do it but his prices are usual steep. (same one who tried charge me 250 to replace a maf:ohmy:)

so if anyone has got a mechanic to do the work, what was the cost of it. or if anyone on here knows what there doing, feel free to do it for me! Id rather pay someone whos done it before!

Come down to us and get Phil Miller to do it, I'll put you up over night.

Head off one day, rods in the next.

And it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Lol to compress the rings and put the pistons in and torque up the big ends maybe but taking the head off, sump, cleaning it all up, honing the bores, fitting new rings it all takes time :)
Auto data gives 6hours to do rings, so in the real world with no issues 8/9 hours would be a better figure to look at

Phil is up for it, ping me your mobile and I'll arrange a group text to get it organised. It'll cost you what your local specialist want to change the MAF :)

You can lend a hand and learn along the way too, the strip down it easy and to be fair so is the rebuild once you've got the bore honed, pistons on the rods and the crank back in. Just very time consuming.

Best to do it on a Saturday and Sunday, strip it on the Saturday, rebuild on the Sunday and then a quick run in and take it easy on the way home. Although Phil suggests head on and back off within a day and then a run in and check down the next day.

Overly jealous!
Would love to get the opportunity to check out an engine rebuild and see how it all works and how to put it back together.

I expect lots of pics please :)

I will do! I find it frustating when someone does a guide and doesnt have many pics for the important parts... but then again, we will be covered in dirt and oil plus might not always remember. I'll try my best :)

Cool, im getting s new number next week so i'll send it to you then. Ive cancelled my contract and need a new number. will be in touch

Wow that's a genorous offer! I need rods toooo :) lol

Issam (INA) sends a full kit with everything you need for £570 posted.

Don't know where you have been getting your rods from, but it doesn't have to be that expensive.

Not sure the INA offering is for rifle drilled rods and INA's delivery times can be 'optimistic'....

<tuffty/>

The $870/£570 INA kits are drilled, and all of the last kits were received within 4 days. Didn't see a single complaint about the 18 he has done in the last month.

I wouldn't buy off him out of principle because he is an arrogant *****, but the prices are good.

Cam follower inside it thats the problem, just replace it every 20k miles at the expense of £28.
Rod Rod Rods

You should take the picture down..... you not cool no more

I seem to remember you wanted to get rods done aswell!!

I would have done the rods at some point yeh.
I chill with the scene kids now, we talk about air and wheels all day :beee:

Community spirit bro, it's what makes forums great.

Marty has been around a long time, and given the amount of **** he gets for owning a Golf its about time somebody gave him a hand haha.
