    Flickering Rev-Needle on Idle

This happens when both car is cold and warm but much more noticable when cold.

Obviously the car starts as normal and revs to around 1200rpm but as it gradually drops the needle flickers between 700revs and 900revs - BUT - there seems to be no fluctuation in engine noise.

Anyone any ideas and what exactly can cause this?

Yeah, me too. Try unplugging the maf and see how it idles.
also worth doing a boost/vac leak test.

^^^Some of the leds behind the rev counter look dull... Also the LCD display is missing different lines every day but thats a normal for these cars.

All other dials do seem fine.

As regards to the vac leak - it may make sense as on the odd occasion the engine does jerk in low down gear change under slow acceleration.
