Help- S3 rear discs seized/corroded to hub and wont release, any suggestiions

    Hi Folks

Thought this would be an easy afternoon task, replacing rear pads and discs, got everything apart ok but the discs would not come free. Have tried heat, and a large persuading stick, but no joy. Any thoughs or does any one near Plymouth have a big hub pulller that would pull the disc off? Car sat on axle stands looking forlorne.

    Thanks in advance

I usually go with a metal lump hammer from the back of the disc.

The shock frees it every time.

If that don't work, pullers would be a mega mission.

Might sound like a silly question but have you removed the little screw that secures the disc to the hub? I did a disc change on a mates merc and the screw head was covered in grime so we couldn't see it at all and thought there wasn't any. We went mental with a hammer and crowbar then found the screw after spraying about half a can of WD40 all over the disc lol. Unscrewed it and it just fell off. Won't make that mistake again!

Hi Westy, yes the retaining screw HAS been removed, I made that mistake 20 years ago, never again. Good call though.

Agreed, as you are replacing them a good thwack will release them, failing that spray WD40 (Or CD-90) at the back of the hub tonight and smack it in the morning!

Well if at first you dont succeed, use a bigger hammer.. They eventually came off with a lot of whalloping with a lump hammer... many thanks to all for their help.
