Rear Diff Leak

Hi Guys,

Just got my car back form the stealers today after a 60k AVS service, and they tell me the rear diff is leaking oil and requires further investigation to fix the leak.

Has anyone else had a similar problem, and if so what kind of money are we talking to get it fixed ?? Is it a big job? DIY job or a specialist one!!

Cheers

yes i had similar on first S3.

but it was self induced. Id decided to store half a bottle of oil, in its container, then sealed freezer bag down the side of the spare wheel.

it had leaked, and tracked down a cable to on top of the haldex.

looked very convincing.

very slim chance, but i dont suppose you done the same have you?

Pal,

I had this on mine last summer. There is more detail around the problems I had getting it fixed mid-way down the attached post click.

In summary you are looking at approx 3.5 hours labour, a haldex oil change (£20), and about £10 worth of seals - there is one around each driveshaft, one around the propshaft, and a fourth around an inspection panel on the diff. From my bitter experience, make sure the stupid idiots in the garage do all four at the same time. You're looking at somewhere around £350 all in.

Good luck!

Hi Paul,

I'm afraid i don't have that problem of the oil leaking through the boot, wish i did now..

Funny thing is i had the car up on ramps a few week ago and changed all the brakes all round along with brake fluid and put on braided hoses back and front and replaced the front discs with grooved discs and never saw a oil leak under the car once myself..

Will check the car myself first before i go and give it in !!

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, i will more then likely get the work done by one of my other mechanics as i trust his work and i know the he knows his stuff.. Only give it to Audi for the service history..

Will remember to change all four seals, as there is no point changing one and leaving the rest out.. Thats just asking for trouble..

Cheers

Pal
