Hi I'm new and need some help

Hi I'm new to this forum but I have a few problems with my audi a3 the car doesn't idle properly this intermittent fault only happens some time it's normally from a cold start up I get the error code p1296 the things I have done to try and fix this problem are iv changed the temp sensor this hasn't helped iv changed this twice thinking a bought a faulty one what's the next move for repairing this fault my car is an audi a3 2001 1.8 turbo petrol cheers for any help John

Idling issues I'd suspect vacuum hoses to be split or not attached properly. The normal suspects are the ones under the manifold.

That code is to do with the cooling system but you've changed the temp sensor, have you changed the stat?

No iv only changed the temp sensor

Check the stored Freeze Frame data with this fault code. Freeze Frame information will be found in the fault code description (if the module supports it) or in Generic OBD-II if the vehicle complies with those regulations.
Freeze Frame data stored at -40 °C is generally an indication of a faulty ECT or wiring.
Freeze Frame data stored at +140 °C is generally an indication of a faulty ECT or wiring.
Freeze Frame data stored with in the 60-80 °C range is an indication that the vehicle was close to, but not within, the cooling systems normal operation range. The Thermostat itself or Cooling system components may be at fault.

Get the stat changed...

i bet my left nut its ur stat change it only a few quid but pita job imo and should fix this i also had idiling issues when mine went so could be related

Thanks for all the replies I have a few other problems but one at a time ill change the thermostat next see how it goes got to change a bearing tomorrow in the snow 😓

Just recently I'm always doing something to the a3 in the cold crap weather
