Well where do I start my rose bushes are seized and I'm getting that dreadful creaking noise and I'm just waiting for a tie rod to go :( I usually do everything on my car myself but with having raynauds my hands really suffer with the cold and I have no garage and would have to do it on my drive so i try and not do to much in the winter.

So I rang up 1 place and was told they would get back to me no reply so found somewhere else's which gave me a price of £70 hour and would take about 5 hours plus the tracking was on top of that  f**k that I thought just to change the bushes, I know there a pain in the **** and for me to do the job i would have take the whole rear hub off and go and get the new bearings pressed in, so that's why I have been ringing theses supposed to be VAG specialists as they should have some kind of tool that they use ? Or at least done them before.

Anyway I finally spoke to some one who seemed like he knew his stuff and said he could also do my trailing arm bushes fit the R32 arb i had and give it a four wheel alignment at not a bad price so I thought why not get it all done and that's it then. So I booked if for Friday morning just gone and took it up there after my night shift and was willing to wait while they done the job.

I got there gave them all the parts and went and sat down in the waiting room half hour later he comes in saying oh it's going to take hours its quite rusty under there and u will be stuck here all day, I tell you what leave me your bushes as my mate is breaking his S3 front end damage I will get the hubs fit everything and come back next week and i will swap everything over and charge me less labour WTF I don't why I said it as I weren't to happy about the situation (Ok):banghead: so left him the bushes and went home, rang them up today 5 days later and he tells me that he has not got the hubs yet and will prob get them tomorrow and fit them next week sometime :aggressive: I thought **** this and said I will be up to grab the bushes in an hour I will do the job myself. What a joke and chore this has been, so now I'm just going to take the job on myself hopefully have a warmer day soon

sorry for the moan but I'm P***ed off to say the least as it needs to be done

Sorry to hear.

Garages are usually ****e, slow, overcharging gits. I never found a decent one so taught myself and then got qualified. Doing it yourself means you know it's done how you want and for free (just takes up time). The only downer there's no one to blame!

Contact Ali at Unit18 in Mk. He'll do it no worries, has a hunter alignment ramp too so can so the full job. Only charges 40 + vat an hour. Ex vag master tech too. Its who I always use and my car will be there next Friday for coilover fitting and alignment.

tell me about it mate that's why I usually do it myself

I think its the same in most places, I used go to a independant VAG specialist. Dont get me wrong he does the job properly but a few times Ive had to bring the car back ebcause X,Y,Z wasnt done right. I remember I had a issue with a lumpy idle, he had the car the whole day and then had the cheek to charge me 120 when nothing was resolved.....

ever since then i either get the jack and axle stands out to do it myself or I take it to R-tech or someone who isnt all about the money!

For 70 an hour if drive to you and wrench the spanner for ya no sweat if i knew what a rose joint was lol. Cant you wear three pairs of gloves and do it yourself?

i hate most garages, i took my mk2 golf to a "vag specialist" who apparently specialises in the older golfs, had it 3 times just to replace the head gasket still was overheating after the head was done the first time) turns out the head was actually cracked this specialist didn't pick the problem up after having a good £300-400 off me (after the initial cost of the head gasket/skimming) ended up getting so frustrated i sold the damn car

If your anywhere close to me I could lend you a hand and a warm space to do it in my lockup if it helps?

My cars in bits in there at the mo as I'm doing a build on it but I can soon shove all the **** out of the way lol

Chin up mate! Where in Bedfordshire are you?

There are some good independent VAG specialists here in MK, as mentioned Unit 18 have a good rep but I've not used them yet, personally I recommend VAGTech they're always good to me and the customer service is always friendly and with a smile.

I don't mind giving up a saturday or sunday to tinker with your car if you need a hand, I can bring tools and home brew ...

Cheers for the offers Zak and Liam that's very kind :icon_thumright:I have been on the phone to Ali at unit 18 and told him my situation he was more then happy to take on the job so the car is booked in for next week and his hourly rate is good to so hopefully this should it. As I said to Jason earlier I should of asked on here in the first place :keule:
