    Rear number plate fixing options.........

    Afternoon gents.

I need some hlep with my rear number plate.

I removed my number plate about 2 years ago to find that some previous muppet had butchered the 2 mount lugs that hold the number plate on, they had rusted through and barely held a screw. I tried to save them but to no hope.

So for the last 2 years ive been using strong double sided tape to hold the number plate and its surround on but every few month i have to redo it as the tape wears out and lets the plate hang.

What options is their, strong magnets, drill the boot lid etc, any help please as its pissing me off now.

Could you heli-coil it? I noticed when I replaced mine recently (to silver plates) that the threads seemed a bit fragile looking.

I always use double sided foam tape. It's strong and looks better than screws.

Double sided foam tape here, 10years+, and they have never come off! Just make sure the mounting surface is proper clean, and you apply firm pressure when pushing the plates on!

Car's been jetwashed foamed and all sorts, plated still on there, infact, I think I may struggle to get them off! lol

Thats what im using at the minute and like i said it last a few months then it drops off, i wonder if its because im using plastic surrounds and they are quite springy so they may not be helping.

I have no problem using double-sided adhesive foam pads and yet use the car daily and wash it regularly. Just make sure the pads are decent quality and the mounting surfaces are clean, dry and grease-free.

I had a similar problem, got No More Nails sticky pads from B&Q and my plate and surround is stuck fast. Been jet washed, exposed to torrential rain and the severe weather in the West of Scotland and still perfectly fine

Self tapping screws, a few scattered round the plate will soon hold it on, so no worries with
    Jet wash either.
