What do you love most about your 8L (A3 and S3 owners ONLY please)

Right we have both threads running so lets unite the two for an 8L coverage

the thing i love most about my 8L is no one expects Ron to be quick, i mean come on it has beige seats for crying out loud lol

The 8L chassis is very good and the 8L is easy to work on
 
The only part I like on my 8L is the bit from the 4 rings on the front to the 4 rings on the back. Other than that, it's not that good.

For the money, across the board everything on the A4 platform seems decent, if you want a little roadster, there's the TT, if you want a family hack, there's the mk4 golf or Octavia, if you want to be a boy racer there's the Leon in cupra and Cupra R form, and if you want a bit more class, there's the A3 for the middle classes, and S3 for the upper classes :laugh:

Parts bin availability, and a simple enormous availability of second hand parts and tuning parts, make it a great chassis to own, maintain, and modify, whatever model it is that you have :)

I love the fact the 8l is still highly respected, and still drive as new (German engineering) so what if my s3 is a little heavy, drinks juice, isn't that fast etc, I like my car because its discrete, unusual, drives 2nd to no other car I've driven before, and is respected by the gf's mum and dad :)

8L is such a classic curvy shape IMO... Mk5 chassis and later just seem to have lost a bit of character... yeah they can look quite aggressive but you can't really tell the difference between model variations these days... plus all that shizzle Prawn said :)

I agree though. I think the tightness of the drive is a real asset, even when they have been to the moon and back, still feels like it's just rolled out of the factory. I like the attention to detail Audi have had on the 8L. It's the little things, like the draws under the front seats, the way that if you hold down the unlock key/hold the key in the lock in the unlock position, the windows roll down. When you pull your key out of the ignition, the interior light glows up. The way the seats go forward to let people in the back. The red light under the centre console.

I could go on, but i'm sure you've heard it all before. :drag:
 
8L's made my ex GF go wet.

There's a story behind this.... I bumped into her elder sister many years after we split up, and we just got talking about cars(she has an AMG C63!), then she said her sis was after a Black A3 in 3dr form(she didn't know I had an S3), and I was like, yup, nice machines they are! :eyebrows:

All of the above plus the flared arches on the S3! They don't seem as noticeable on the newer models and that makes the 8L S3's even more desirable for me. Plus she still pulls away like new and that never fails to put a smile on my face
 
I love the 8L because it bridges the gap between young and old drivers. Just look at the range of people we get in this forum.

Some cars carry an image of being a boy racers car and some cars attract the older driver, the 8L does both.
 
my 8l once saved the queen from a terrorist attack......

What I love about my 8l beast from east is... b5 induction kit. Forge dv, n249 delete, FMIC, sports cat, Miltek non resy, forge pvc set-up, stage2 remap. All these where options i choose, after I bought beast lol.
& fact that a lot of car enthusiasts do try to tame him, but only ever get to see his rear..
 
On my second one i love them so much. It's an audi with quattro, Nuff said.

Except solid, fast, understated, and plenty of potential.

Oh yes loving the 1.8tqs :D
 
I'd always fancied an 8l s3 even when i was a honda head and after i bought a cheapish a3 8l i was so impressed with its interior and build quality for a 100k miles plus car i couldn't resist trading that in for my first s3. The reason i chose my first s3 over the fair few i looked at was basically for it's colour (mineral grey) and i love it so much i still have it today, even though i was meant to sell her after buying bumble (another 8l s3 for those not in the know) four months ago. Now my main joy is when the boost comes in on bumble and most other cars end up as specks in my rear view mirror :) also love seeing the boost gauge hit 2.0 bar and stay there until the boost pipe eventually blows off :D
I could honestly go on and on though and i would also say that as an all round jack of all trades car kind of car the 8l is brilliant and especially with the haldex system in the snow cos even for a fake quattro it still works ****** good.
 
The 8Ls are pretty old these days but when people see it they still remark on how good they look. Timeless shape with beautiful arches. Just wish it had a smaller steering wheel......!

German engineering. No other car that's 13 years old would feel as tight and 'fresh' as mine does. The main perk is the Recaros, and once I get it mapped the cost per bhp increase is astonishing compared to other cars. Having had bucket seats in my cars these are as close as you can get to being held in without numbing your legs like buckets do.

& I do love those Recaro's! Comfiest seats I've ever had!
 
Hummm there is something about my 8L.....can't explain but there is a mystery going on with my quattro,since the first day,anyway i love the way he handles and the way he treats my driving style:blackrs4:

What I love bout my S3 is it's comfort and the smoothness in drive from the second u pull away stone cold, but I am mostly used to old cars so. Suspension seems really rigid for standard too.

Gonna also say what I dislike though. Seems the same with all turbo cars, the variation in power delivery depending on which rev you're rolling on at, how much throttle at which rev, to clodding it full belt thru the gears. You can make it seem gutless if you get it wrong.
 
What I love most about my S3 is just how unassuming it is. I don't get any second looks, I'm not seen as 'another kn0b head boy racer' like a lot of other 23 year old's I know, in their hatchbacks. I almost look respectable. :eyebrows:
But then when I do get said boy racer's right up my ar$e, I can drop a gear and disappear.
Plus it's looks. My ex got jealous of how much time I spent cleaning my car, and not bothering with her..
But the S3's has got better curves.. :lmfao:

Up until recently i was sure Bill hated me like i was a dose of the clap, ive since found out its just his sence of humor :), was hoping to have called in at B5 on thursday but time was against us :(
 
I struggle to say I love my S3 until... I see it ir drive it llol it's a car I can cover endless miles in,
i would say mine has 2 faults though... Rear leg room and a shallow boot. But I have kids so proof a "warm 4wd 3dr hatch " can even cover family duties .
 
Iv had 3 A3 1.8t 8l's, best cars of all time, all had there own charecter!

Iv had 5 1.8ts over the last few years and the a3's were still the best all rounder out of them all, leon cupra was fast and fun but cheap interior and not as pritty or well equipt, and the tt is as usefull as a choclate tea spoon.

Also ill happily say that they will be as iconic as the mk1 gti in a few generations to come. Ok not at the same level but still up there with the greats :)
 
I've had a wee 1.6 8l for 3 weeks now and love it! All except the cold running temp :( changed the thermostat and it seems no different. Other than that a great wee car!
 
My A3, even with it's slipping clutch, rusted doors, paint bubble on the roof rack, worn interior bit's (door handles) and electrical problems i still love it. I love the look. I love the comfort and how the car handles on long journey's. But the thing i love the most is how spacious is seems in the front. You don't get that much in a hatchback and being near 6ft.
