S3 front mounted intercooler tips for fitting and testing ?

Been looking threw the threads on fmic,was going to get one a few months ago but seeing as it was winter and colder temps I let it slip but now it's time to get one on the car

ideally I wanted to get a specialist to fit it but the good ones are busy busy just now so my mate and me are going to give it a go lol,was wondering if anyone has fitting tips to keep fogs as I want it looking oem as much as possible

also anyone got any links or tips on how to test it for leaks as no doubt it would leak
 
I asked a similar question to both AH and Bill @ Badger 5 plus various forum members. The cheapest is going for a standard wellycooler but you may have to say goodbye to your fogs or take the Gingo cooler from Bill but you will need brakets or go AHv2. Will all of them you need to modify the crash bar and will need to trim the front bumper etc....

AHv2 is expensive but the quality is excellent, but for me cost vs performance the Gingo is the champ.

gingo ?? Is that the one with the inlet outlets up top with the welded pipes coming off it ?

I would rather pay more and keep my fogs for the stealth look

Thats correct the gingo keeps your fogs and saves money, win win in my view.
 
The FMIC I put on my car cost less than £100 for the core its mot as big as the welly cooler etc but fits really nicely and keeps the fogs and grills for that OEM look.

Not really tested a lot since its been fitted but its defo better than the original SMIC setup from the logs I have seen compared to an S3 with the original setup.

This is the core its a apexi deltafin one bought off ebay

would this have enough flow for the mtm spec ?
 
What is the score with the map sensor does it need changed when fitting a front mount ?
 
hi chaps ive just finshed mine as when i started it was snowing , i got a 600x300x80mm toyosport cooler (was ment to be a 76mm but they sent the wrong one) i got 2 alley 63mm 90' bends ,two 76mm to 63mm reducing bends (silcone)and two 63mm 90' bends (silcone) and one 63mm alloy joiner and 8 60-90mm jubleys . i used the standerd pipes ie the ones from the standerd intercoolers onward . will post pics asap ps it cost less than £200 ALL IN

What do you mean changed? if you are replacing the OE plastic map tube for any reason with alloy pipes (as I have done) then you need to provide somewhere for the map sensor to fit... forge sell map sensor tubes with the boss welded on...

what size is the OE plastic map tube ? So the sensor it's self don't need to be changed itself at all only needs to be fitted in the forge one if wanting all alloy pipes ?.

Its 60mm but an odd shape to get it to fit between the battery and headlight... if you want all alloy pipes then arguably you will need something to fit the MAP sensor too... Forge do a tube with a boss ideal for the job... should mention though that with the battery in the way then you are pretty much limited as to what options you have... all the stuff I have used is in my build thread...
