As above, im toying with picking up an NA manifold and pipe and doing away with the turbo. Ive had nothing but problems, and even fully uprating the boost pipes and intercooler at a TDI specialist has proved problematic. I cant afford to take much more time off work, cant afford another car either.

It will run like poo as dave said. Not worth it tbh, your better off leavin it on and doing things properly. If you got boost leaks, check where by using a smoke tester. Then tighten or replace pipes as needed. Patience is key!

Were there any N/A vag derv engines?

I tried doing things properly, taking it to a specialist lol! Came out of the workshop with the bottom pipe dropping on the driveshaft, went back in yesterday, came out feeling good and 50 miles later its leaking. Thing is, I had cured all the leaks before i took it in for the intercooler kit, that was to prevent future issues with boost problems.

I have tried putting soap over the joins to find the leak but its still not obvious. Clamps used are tight, they were done up with a nut runner!

I wonder if bypassing the intercooler altogether is an option? would the car limit boost automaticly when temps get too high or would it go limp?

There is a garage with a smoke tester local i guess thats an option.

The engine and mapping is setup to be turbo charged... you can't just bolt NA stuff on and expect it to work...

Don't bypass things such as the intercooler to 'fix' a problem that shouldn't be there... if you have taken your car to be fixed and paid the money for it to be fixed then if they have done it wrong then they should put it right... speaking from experience fixing one issue can highlight other issues that were being masked by the one that got fixed...

The car left the factory with all these bits in place and working properly... over years stuff wears out and sadly (and I see this far too often these days) the cars pass hands very quickly and accumulate problems... all you can do is systematically go through them to get the engine back into a state where its all working ok...

A smoke test will help diagnose potential leaks... assuming this is what is actually happening? what are the symptoms? have you checked for any fault codes?

I havent run any logs.
Ok to be a bit clearer, after various pipes popping leaks and getting fixed, I EGR deleted it and promised myself an upgrade side mount and hard pipes.

The EGR delete was welded up after it was blowing a little oil out of it.
A hard pipe and uprated alloy side mount was fitted. I drove home with vibrations that got worse, kwikfit ramps the day after and I could see the bottom pipe hanging on the driveshaft.
Garage who fitted it all had another go on saturday afternoon, they made a solid pipe up on another car from the turbo with a small silicon hose connecting to intercooler.

Top pipe section seems ok.

under boost its obvious theres a leak from the noise. but I couldnt see it jacking the car up and revving it.

Sure Ive let them know theres another problem, but how many more times will it need fixing, im doing 80 mile round trips to the garage and getting no work done. I suppose I could ask the original pipework and intercooler is refitted and im refunded, but I havent heard other people having this problem with this garage!

pop over to mine and i'll help you sort it? im only ten mins off j28 on the m1, i fix/fit these regularly.....do the boost pipes have a bead on the edge? as they pop off/and leak really easy otherwise? although i find if theres no bead clamp type is very important?

I assume the pipes are beaded, the one from the turbo is solid from the alloy billet that fits the turbo, to the silicon reducer to the intercooler. Clamps are nearly an inch wide and done up with a 10mm nut.

Ive just had another run in it and it seems to get worse when warm. no black smoke though but losts of whooshing like a small tear in the silicon. Ive logged engine blocks 3 7 and 10 or 11 i think but not a clue how to graph it or whats important to look at.
