    dipstick rubber ?

    Hi all,

Just come to replace my dipstick housing. The old one was snapped and I think who ever had it before put like rubber heat shrink stuff around it? Or is that meant to be there, or should the housing go straight onto the metal? The new housing I got wont go over the rubber but if I pull it off should go over the metal.

    Is this correct?
    Cheers

If it's a 1.8T, it should just be an orange plastic tube that clips over a metal tube coming out of the sump. It's about 9" long.

    Agreed, I think it's about £3.20 + vat.

yep, the part was less than £5.00 inc vat (from Audi). They had to order it in but only took a day to arrive. Who ever has tried to fix it has done a bodge job and the rubber thing was such a hastle to remove.. So I need to now remove the old oil filter. It's well untruely stuck on tight. Someone said to bash a screw driver through it and use that as a lever. Good idea?

    Thanks
