Tyres for standard 16" wheels

The normal tyre size is 205/55/r16 for the wheels on my 1.9tdi Quattro. The rears have 225/50/r16 tyres however,

The fronts need replacing and I aim to put some Rainsport 2s on there. However I'm just a bit concerned that I won't see much benefit with the decent tyres on because of the big side wall. Will it matter much?

Rainsport2s have insanely soft sidewalls anyway even on 225/45s. It won't really matter much tbh with anything over a 45 profile. 205/55 will be cheaper too as its a really common size which is a benefit.

I have read a lot about them having soft tyre walls which put me off...
