My 2000 S3 has a 6cd changer in the boot and a head unit like this in the dash. How do i tell if its a bose system ?

Not always on the speaker grills. Mine is Bose and it doesn't.
There was a thread somewhere I think saying that if your in-boot subwoofer has two 4" grills then its a Bose system and if it had one 6" then it's none Bose.
Also.. When you fire your car up your CD player should say Bose if it is.

Yes as said 2 x 4" drivers in sub = Bose
1 x 6.5" driver = non Bose
Bose welcome on HU can be switched on/off with VAGCOM so means nothing

Your radio could be coded for bose, so it displays the bose name at startup, but that don't mean you have bose. but the main way of telling is the speaker grils on the door cards should have the bose logo's on them, the only time that is not accurate is if the door cards have been changed!
