    Wagner Tuning FMIC????

I saw this tuner at the Autosport International event last weekend and their fmic looks like a really clean setup. They claim that you can keep the fog lights and don't have to cut the metal bumper. Just drill two mounting holes. The kit comes with everything to install on the car. I've researched the crap out of front mounts for the S3 and I've never heard of these guys. Anyone here know of this kit or used it?

Heard of it, seen it Autosport International this year... nice end tanks but its a thin core (so no use for hybrids and big turbos) and expensive...

There is a huge FMIC thread in the FAQ's thread in the stickies... basically its down to the AH Fabrications V2 or the 600x300x76mm eBay (or 'Wellycooler' as it is know as)

Wagner tuning have been doing parts like manifolds and intercoolers for years for S and RS Audi's. A guy with a RS4 B5 on Audi SRS forum got some impressive gains with their side mount kit for that car. I imagine the kit will be very well put together and fit nicely.

From what I could see yes... the design looks good but I know from experience that the core depth would struggle on a larger turbo setup... it should fit with no cutting of the crash bar and was quite large surface area wise so should work well on anything a std K04 could throw at it...

I'm pretty sure the lizard fella with the 3.2 turbo engine in his S3 was running one. As does the 2.5 engined one that was up for sale recently.

Doesn't make it the right one for the job though sadly... my AH Fabs V1 'worked' at 350hp but it was inefficient and had a lot of pressure drop... the wagner has more rows and a larger surface area than the V1 of course but smaller width tubes will speed up the airflow and generate heat from friction...

If it was a deeper core it would be a winner tbh... I really like the endtank design on it...

Oh, I agree it's not ideal but I think it's the fact it doesn't need the crash bar cutting and is a complete kit that appealed to me. Less hassle and mucking around to get it to fit. It is a nice design.

I still wonder whether an insurance loss adjuster would throw out a claim if he/she saw the crash bar cut?

I still intend to fit one of these to mine....after I've recovered from the cost of suspension.

Depends on how the car was declared to a degree I guess...

Tbh I don't know why people are so hung up on the crash bar as its only the same as the old steel bumper on my Mk2 Escort... its designed to shrug off parking bumps rather than anything more serious...

I do agree it would be easier not to cut the thing but its never going to prevent much damage in a sizeable shunt

I would suggest they would think more of the fmic than the modified crash bar... if front end crash, fmic cops it anyhows.

I disagree, the profile of the crash bar looks a very good design, and will push the impact force to the sides, once you have cut the back edge of it you can compare it to a mk2 escort bumper... i.e useless...
I dont think the insurance would entertain anybody who declares they have cut a safety device ... but thats another story...

if anything, I think my cut crash bar will offer more protection in a crash now it has a 3" thick FMIC sitting behind it

Ok... agreed the crash bar is a better design than a Mk2 Escort bumper but that was not the point I was making... the more modern design of the crash bar is obviously going to be more effective than a Mk2 Escort bumper of old but its still there doing the same job... shrugging off minor bumps to keep the repair bills down...

Considering Forge have been supplying pre cut crash bars with their S3 FMIC for years then I would have thought we would have heard about any particular issues by now but as Bill says you pays your money you take your choice...

As long as all mods are declared to the insurance then there should be no issues... I had to fill out a form listing all the mods and other work required to fit them to my insurance company...

Problem with that is if you do have a bingle is what's behind the intercooler that gets damaged.
I had to replace condenser and radiator, intercooler didn't get a scratch.

To be fair these cars are so old and cheap now that even a minor knock on the front end is likely to write the car off. Just dont crash, simple as that.

Doubt they'd right it off here though. Prices for used cars here are way higher than in the UK. They seem to age better too. It's hard to find any rust under mine. Less rain and no salt helps massively.

Yeah totally. They're quite happy to take massive premiums but will do their best not to pay!

I have the AH Fab V1 fmic and there was a great improvement when I fitted it!! Although, it is a real pain in the ass to fit and still doesn't fit very well. So I was just looking for something with a little better fit. I would be better off getting a V2 I guess. I did notice that the Wagner core was not near as thick but the fitment was spot on and the end tanks were a really nice design. It is just an overall clean looking kit. If you are concerned about cutting the crash bar and don't care to go over 300 bhp then I think that is the intercooler for you.

Although, this is a bad ass looking kit Bill!! This would definitely be an upgrade from the AH Fab and it's cheaper!! I might sell my AH Fab kit and go with Bill's fmic!!

Bill, does this IC fit " upside down" ie: the inlet/outlet would be at the top of the IC when fitted to the car?
