Vent gauge pod. Fitting tips please.

I have a gauge pod that fits in the drivers side vent in place of the slats.

Has anyone fitted one of these before? I'm after some tips to fitting to in order to prevent damage to the slats in case I want to put it back to standard at some point.

Any guidance please?
