Spring noise when turning

Hi folks,
When driving my car today I noticed that I am now getting a noise from the N/S spring when turning.
I got someone to turn the steering wheel while I checked to see if I could identify where the noise was coming from.
I noticed that when the steering was turned, the N/S spring did not turn smoothly with the strut but juddered round. I went and checked the O/S spring and it was turning smoothly.
Does this mean that I've got a knacker'd top strut bearing or will the top strut bush just need greased?

I'd get it checked at a garage ASAP. I had the same noise and found that the top-coil on the front passenger-side suspension spring had broken off.

You wouldn't happen to be driving a 2000/2001 S3 would you? See my post in this forum! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I jacked the car up last night and checked the spring and top mount.
Good news is that the spring has not snapped and looks in decent condition as does the top bush.
After dropping the car off the jack I drove the car and suprise suprise the noise has disappeared.
I noise returns I'll end up stripping down the strut top bush and checking the bearing.
