HELP Possible gearbox or clutch issue

Morning,

The past couple of days i have noticed when i pull away in 1st gear there is a strange noise it only does it in first gear. It happens both when the clutch is depressed and also when its realeased once im out of first gear its fine.

any ideas before i send it to a mechanic?

try realignment of gearbox mate.
its not hard to do and costs nothing.
VW 5 speed shifter adjustment for 02J and MQ250 transmissions - YouTube its the same for 6 speeds
your pin to lock the gearbox is on the right had side of the gearbox and you just push it in to lock the box

thats if your car is an s3

Thanks but the car is A3 1.8t Sport 5 speed manual.
