A buddy of mine has just purchased a 2003 A3, he is a bit unsure about the nature of the headlamps, on dip beam the 2 inner (fish eye) lamps come on, when selecting main beam with dip all 4 come on, if only flashing main with lamps off, only outer 2 come on. Is this correct as we think the outer 2 lamps should be the dip beam? Thanks.

Yes... this is correct... the inner projector beams are dip... outer dished beams only come on with main beam...
