Cut my loses or carry on ( what would you do? )

As some of you know I have been dealing with an issues with my car pulling left, I've got to a point where I don't know what to do or where to turn to rectify this problems, I had the rear axl changed about this time last year to see if it would fix the problem but didn't, since I've changed the ball joints drop links track rod ends and wishbones on the front the car seems to pull left worse than before and know feels light on the front, so today I had a look at the back of the car when at work and the passenger rear wheel looks as tho its sitting at a different angle to the right side, if you were to look at the car the top of the wheel tilts into the car so sits at an angle and the drivers side looks flush, but the drivers side rear also sits a little closer to the lip of the arch then the passenger side.

im at a point that I'm not sure what to do, I like my car but its getting to be a wind up this pulling/drifting,

so what would you guys do?

You had a 4 wheel alignement as it sounds like thats your issue mate.
 
Yes mate I've had 4 wheel alignment a few times and it was done on the hunter tracker system, a couple of the guys who have done the alignment reckon its to do with my suspension, but I can't explain why my passenger rear wheel is slightly tilting inwards
 
Any record of any crash damage to the car? I know another member on here who's car had "slid into a curb" in the snow according to the previous owner. His front drivers wheel is about an inch further back then it should be where it looks like the wishbone has bent from the impact. I think you might need to start comparing the rear suspension components mate.
 
No record of a crash, I measured from centre of wheel caps from front to back on both sides, its the same length, but the rear axl sticks out more on the right for sure maybe a centimetre at the max so can't explain, I'll get the wheels off and back on axl stands at weekend and look for anything bent, but I can't see there being much there to be bent being an a3.
 
Are your rear wheels the same offset? Is one genuine and one a replica wheel or something?

If the four wheel alignment was done properly, then that should have picked up anything like a wheel tilting or crabbing.

Do as you say, and have a good poke about with the car on stands, start with the basics.

The wheels came with the car when I bought it, I suppose it can only be where the axl bolts to the car body or a weak rear spring causing the slight tilt? I hope my car isn't bent, when I had the alignment I did ask if the axl was bent etc they said no and that it all lines up, just my castor and camber are off
 
I had a simaler prob where I couldn't get enought tow on one side at the rear, when they were set the same (but wasn't enought) one wheel sat out more than the other side, so I undone the rear sub frame and shifted it over to the side that was more under and then tracked it again. All good :)

Yarp this is me, I just got hold of a full driver side leg hub carrier etc I got mine done on the Hunter system but they said they cant adjust the frons as westy said its pushed back an inch. my rear is way out to according to the Hunter, guy said it could be the track rods at the rear or worse case its the rear subframe as both my rear wheels angle in slightly when viewed from the back of the car. I have issues with the front wearing tyres but have not had any wear problems with the rear so hoping mine is just the toe bar things.

Let us know how you get on as there are loads of bits on eBay save buying new and would be a shame to give up on that sort of problem.

Stopped of at a garage on the way home and they had a quick look at the car, but being an a3 no adjustment on the rear, they said axle isn't bent which they knew as they done the hunter tracking a few weeks back, I said is the car bent slightly at the back and he said to get it on I jig to see as my axle makes one wheel sit closer to the outer ache and the other is slightly tilted out ( camber like ) then he said I should change all the suspension for a lowering kit as I have lower springs on standard shock, he reckons that would help it out a lot with regards to it pulling left and polybush it also.

When I'm at a stand still in the car if I let go of the steering wheel, and put my foot down the steering wheel will spin to the left fast?

Do you have a printout of the geometry log?

I'm not familar with your previous situation, or in fact issue so I'll just throw some suggestions out there.

You definitely don't have a slow puncture?
All tyre sizes are the correct size all round, none are particularly worn majorly over the other's on opposing sides?
No heavily buckled/bent/damaged wheels?
Have the brakes been checked for any sticking pads, calipers that could be causing the wheel to have more resistance on the left side than the right, potentially causing a pull when off the throttle/coasting?
Is the steering wheel set 100%!!! straight?

Are your tyres wearing abnormally? Edges wearing on a inner or outer more so (front or rear?), scuffing the edges etc?

At what instance does the car pull? BARE in mind, practically all of our roads are cambered, so naturally all cars if left to drift will have a tendency to follow the camber of the road - drift left.

It sounds like the axle hasn't been fitted completely in line with the body if it's had a replacement, I'm not sure if there is any/much adjustment on 8L's when fitting but I imagine there would be a small bit of movement as would be with lining up anything that big attaching to the body. Might be worth loosening off the axle bolts & seeing if you can move the axle over to the opposing side in an attempt to line it up?

How many times has the car been aligned? An Alignment should be showing up any degree of camber that is out of spec, I would be worried if you're having an alignment where you can see the wheel is visibly tilting, yet the alignment doesn't show up the measurement out of tolerance?

It's also worth keeping in mind, there is a lot of skill when aligning cars - you will NEVER get the same measurements twice & the equipment is very tedious to use at the best of times so obtaining accurate results can sometimes be difficult, especially if it's not been setup properly initially. My point of this statement being, if you are paying kwik fit £50 for a alignment, you are going to get a £50 alignment by someone that isn't completely clued up. It would be worth your while paying at least double that for a reputable company/geometry specialist to align the car & advise you on what you need. A garage saying you would benefit from new suspension all round & poly bushing everything is a bit like me saying you may as well buy a new car that doesn't have this fault... It's vague at best.
 
to your original question mate, If your car costs you say, 1000 pound a year to service, maintain and fix, that's less than the depreciation of a new year yearly. definatly not een the interest ( if its financed )

So its almost always financialy worth keeping and fixing what you have now.

Ill keep it, I think most people get fed up when it feel like its never ending etc, I'm having the brakes looked at on Wednesday to see if any are binding, ask so having the steering racked looked at as the steering feels light and feels like a slight play in the wheel, so then ill move onto the next thing, ill be buy coilovers soon to and see if it makes any difference
 
Hi mate,

I'm having the same dilemna at the moment. At the moment i'm leaning towards selling up because i'll always know that i'm not happy with the way my car performs at the moment, and I can't handle chasing something around and around in circles when I could just get another one that isn't so f*cked... Just my two pence
