Hey there guys, I've spent all of yesterday trying to change my first beam lights on my S3. Below is a pic of the bulb I am trying to change. On the driver's side I unscrewed half of the units that are infront of the light and I still can't take it out. I've twisted the bulb over and over agian (anti-clockwise and clockwise). I've done the same to the passenger side by taking the battery out and I still can't unclip the /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif bulb. So has anyone changed these lights? anyone know if I have to turn clockwise or anti-clockwise? or just a simple Tug? because I am lost guys I need help, thanks

That's your sidelight yes?

If so, just pull it. They can be a little stubborn but persevere with it. Don't yank at it (oo-er!) but be firm.

usual trick for the sidelights is pull on the wiring harness.

at your own risk of course, as i have the means to repair mine if they snap.

The wiring is pretty tough. They are only push fit.

ok so I figure it's just a tug cause I've done enough twisting and turning, but by side lights do you guys mean indicator lights? because I'm talking about the first beam lighs, is that the same thing? cheers for the help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

nope side lights is the one lit in your pic

ive never heard of them called first beam light before.

Yes, it is the first light that comes on when you flick the stalk up, in other words, your sidelights!

Agree with PaulS3 regarding pulling on the wiring harness, I do the same. It's a little hard to get at the actual bulb itself most of the time.

Hope you've sorted it now.

Cheers

Tim

Be a man, just pull.

I ponced around with mine for weeks afraid I would break the wire, so I took them to my local specialist, Westec and the guy there just ripped them out.

And they are working just fine.

I tried yanking mine out and one stopped working, so I wiggled it a bit until it worked again and left it alone.

I've just changed the sidelights on my S3 for LED white items, looks much better than the standard yellow look, and I pulled the wires to get them off... took me 20 minutes though, due to lack of room, with the battery in the way on the passenger side and the washerbottle+wires on the driverside, I take it that's normal?!

yep. normal to loose some skin and blood.

try it on a Mk4 golf

its only easier with a broken dislocated arm of a small child. a right pig of a job.

Tip: unclick the cover behing the headlamps, and usind a bit of force and positioning, rotate them 90 degrees upwards so you have a gap to get at the sidelights. This only applies on 2peice(pre-facelift) head lamps, and once you change the bulbs, the difficult bit is getting the damn cover back straight to click into place!

Hey there mate, finally the site's back up and running. I was able to take out the lights, can't believe it took me so long lol, anyhows here's a pic of how it looks, don't laugh because both lights are different colours (need to get it sorted) but I like the passenger side light, enjoy and cheers for the help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif
