didnt I read that audi had changed the design of the pump to a metal impeller? I just got one today along with timing belt and tensioner and it looks like it is plastic. The part number is :

06A 121 011 TX

No, audi haven't redesiged the part. They still use a plastic impellor AFAIK.

If you want the metal pump you have to get an aftermarket item.

Not all after market pumps are metal so you'll need to check with the parts guy before you buy.

I'm pretty sure thats about the size of it.

cheers HTC, it hasnt given me any problems just thought It would be prudent. Will take a picture of the old one if it is worn. Noticed that there is a £20 surcharge on the old one. On return of this it will have cost me £78.25 for the three parts, not too bad I guess.

we're trying to get a group buy organized of metal impeller pumps on my forum

At what milage is it wise to change the waterpump. Have read a post on how they are prone to wear, so might replace at service.

I varys alot. For example people have had them fail as low as 20000 miles, yet my car is on 120000 and its been fine on the original pump.

I would say, just change it when the cam belt is done.

Couldnt agree more with HTC - change with the cam belt - 60-80000K
