i have used these for around 6 weeks now and i love them! They are stiffer than standard but not crashy at all, however i would recommend fitting them with the polo top caps, because when the top mounts lower the car slightly it pushes the cups further up.

All the reviews on ed38 just say the dont lower enough but that is probably because they have been running standard fecked top mounts which have already compressed. The actual mounts themselves are very well made! The only real comparison i can make feel wise is it is a similar difference to putting a poly dog bone mount (but in the suspension)

And now my top cups sit perfectly flush Hope this helps people!

Did you fit these then bob? I need new front struts and top mounts. Powerflex do top mounts now and I was gonna try them out?

Mine creaked badly when turning at slow speeds so I went back to oem mounts and fitted a set of spring lowering plates to bring the front end down. Brand new top mounts made the front end of my car point to the sky as the old ones compress over time.

i had the psi poly top mounts, not the powerflex btw.

I've bought some Powerflex ones to try out, heard they are better than the PSI ones.

    Time will tell.

Might I suggest that rather than replacing crappy rubber top mounts for more crappy rubber top mounts, that a set of these could be a fantastic compliment to any S3 that gets used and driven properly?

So nick how are these on the road? No harsher than lcr top mounts? Have you got a write up on them, showing installation?

I'm finding them really good so far mate, I've covered around 1500 miles with them fitted, and they feel amazing.

I'm using them with the OEM top mount bearings also to deal with rotation of the springs during steering, and the ride is very precise, Dad commented when he drove it that it feels much more pointy now than before, and steering feel seems to be improved too.

here's the little write up I did when I fitted them:

Quote Originally Posted by Prawn View Post

Started off by fitting the new Silver-Project adjustable top mounts

I previously had Eibach eccentric top mounts fitted, and whilst these have been great, they're eccentric, offsetting the strut by a set amount. And then you rotate the mount to alter the camber / caster gain, but the two are very much dependant on each other. As one goes, up, the other goes down. For a fast road setup I think they're ideal, as they retain the rubber top mount, and improve geo, but I wanted more!

...so, the eibach mounts prior to stripping down:

I had modified these by removing the locating pin and tapping a thread into them, so allow a bolt to be screwed down into the mount to lock it's rotation. This worked better than the eibach design, which could easily break off if you didn't have it aligned 100% when torquing it down.

Top caps off, and just the lower nut to remove:

One Silver Project top mount waiting to go on:

Old mounts removed, and I took the spring cap off the KW's to check how it'd all mate together.

Now, I was told that these could replace all the standard top mounts and bearings totally, but if I were to use the lower fitting from the kit only, it would put all the rotation of the strut through the spherical bearing, which, as Sam highlighted earlier, could well shorten the life of the bearing:

However, When you fitted the OE top mount bearing in between the spring cap and the new part, everything seemed to fit together rather perfectly:

The OE bearing fits the KW's pefectly, and the lower collar of the top mount kit fits inside the casing of the OE top mount perfectly.

This cannot be co-incidence, it's got to go like this. This way, the pillowball takes all the weight, and seals with strut location and any angular changes during the shock travel, but the OE bearing deals with all rotational forces from steering. Cheap and dead easy to replace, and proven to last very well. It seems like a good combo to me.

So, time to fit it all

Lower plate and bearing installed on the strut:

Lower half of the topmount in the turret:

    And coming together:

Then the top cap goes on, and the bolts go in, and it's looking complete:

    Repeat for the other side:

    And they're done!

I'm now showing around 2.8 degrees of negative camber, and I expect around 9 degrees caster (Alignment later showed -2.4 camber and 8.8 caster). On the test drive initial impressions are very promising, the ride is smooth and good, and not anywhere near as harsh as I thought it might be. The car feels incredibly pointy on turn in and just goes where I want it, with no delay. Steering feel seems better, you can you really feel the effects of the increased caster with a nice weight around centre to the steering.

Once I've got some new wishbone bushes I'll get it all corner weighted and aligned again, but first impressions are that this kit is VERY good value for money. It fits perfectly, it's very easy to adjust, the rose joints are a standard size and replaced for just a few quid if needs be, and by utilising the OE upper bearings also it should give everything a decent life span.

I wouldn't hesitate to run these on a road car either.

Massive thanks to Silver-Project for the top mounts, if anyone is intersted they can be found here: SilverProject

Very nice write up mate, thats help make my mind up, i was going to buy the compbrake solid top mounts at some point but heard bad reviews of them eating themselfs, with these ill get a sturdier top mount than the lcr ones but also **** loads of adjustability win win haha.

Do they do any other colours though?

I've heard really bad reports about the compbrake ones shattering, and coming loose all the time as well. plus they're non adjustable, so really no huge point.

the thing I liked about these, is that be using the OE top mount bearings in the assembly, they're most likely to break first rather than an expensive spherical bearing in the top mount. The spherical bearings are also a totally stock bearing commonly available, held in by a circlip from underneath the mount, so quickly and easily replaced should the need ever arrise.

All sorts of colours available too, orange was a one off for me, but I'm sure they'd do just about any colour you wanted!

If anyone does buy them, tell them in the paypal notes section that Prawn recommended them

Sounds like a cheap and effective solution, especially considering they can use the owm bearing which is quite cheap to replace.

So if we name drop will they give us a discount? Haha

gops is that £400 for one strut? Even my kw variant 2's arnt anywhere near that.

I've being saying they were no harsher for ages. Many people have pre-conceptions about this sort of stuff with no experience, like the rose jointed wishbones. Just got my Ground Control top mounts back the machinist (for 60m H&R springs) which are similar but an evolution (use their own spring pan/bearing setup) and a fair wedge more expensive. Gagging to get them fitted along with the wishbones.

I do like how the Ground Control ones eliminate the stock bearing (which is known for being ****). Shame they didn't do it on these other similar ones.

If they're anything like the Ground Control ones, they'll be pressed in. Wouldn't want to rely on a small circlip to hold everything to together on rebound.
