My S3 8L Progress Thread

Whos is the dc5???
Awesome car, my mrs would like one.

The DC5 is my girlfriends superkarl. I would suggest she gets one, they are great cars to drive and look smart!

Cheers Sam the car is starting to come together nicely now i think.

Right a quick update. Have been pretty busy recently but managed to fit my boost hoses. Had a bit of a nightmare with the roose motorsport ones so purchased the creations motorsport set which i could trim to fit nicely. I have also popped in some new led side light bulbs. I am yet to tackle the dogbone mount however have got one of ebay for peanuts so will polybush it off the car then install to correct torque settings when i have access to a ramp. Anyway heres some pics.

Next areas of work will be looking into a FMIC setup where i can keep my fogs and having the car super-guarded.

awesome work so far dude, why are those clamps so heavily rusted in the 2nd pic?

Thanks mate. Im currently working my way around the engine bay replacing clips and plastics which have seen better days, this clip is one that needs replacing for sure!

is that water leak that caused it or just the constant moisture in the air there? never seen clamps rust...

Honestly I'm not to sure mate, i know there are no leaks in there now but there could have been a leak which occurred during the previous owners time and they have just started to corrode. They will be replaced during the engine bay tidy up.

When looking at the car the other day the callipers stood out as an item which needed some attention. Having replaced the pads with red stuff not too long ago i just opted to give them a lick of paint. Has tidied them up a bit.

Right a quick update, over the last few weeks i have been doing some research and gaining some knowledge off Rob 'vrbob' into the next few mods and been collecting parts. This evening i tackled the n249 bypass and fitted my new Creations Motorsport crankcase breather pipe as the standard one was knackered. Big thanks to BenJee s3 for his how to in the stickies, great guide. :beerchug:

Collecting parts for the FMIC setup now!! :rockwoot:

Cheers M8!

Not much to report at the moment I'm afraid, still collecting FMIC parts.

Replaced the rear discs and pads as they were worn and thats about it. Its too cold. Heres a picture of the fresh discs and pads through the wheels. Much nicer than the worn and corroded ones.

Thanks Aterro!

The wheels are 18" x 8J
Tyre size is 215 35 18 so there is a little stretch
Suspension is the 30mm apex springs
Spacers are 20mm rears and 12mm fronts.

:salute:

Right a quick update for you guys. Over Christmas I decided to sort something on the car which has always been on the list. The previous owner had not wired in the aftermarket alpine head unit properly. The unit would occasionally cut out, the radio would have poor signal and the unit was not connected to the ignition feed so would stay on when the key was turned off after a drive. I whipped out the head unit quickly to have a look and found a wiring jungle and lots and lost of electrical tape. Anyway to cut a long story short new audio harnesses and proper connections made and its all how it should be now. Here is a picture of mid rewire.

Next on the list was to get a new cam cover gasket as mine needs replacing, this is still waiting to go on as i am having the haldex serviced at the same time with the help from another forum member vrbob.

Finally the FMIC parts are all here, all bends, joiners, samco hosing, clips etc. The cooler itself is due to arrive this Friday from Australia and i cant wait!

At the weekend the car was treated to a good clean and wax with some g3 professional. The girlfriend got a new camera for xmas so she got some good shots of the s3 for me. Hope you guys like them.

Right, here we go. The car was treated to a new cam cover gasket and cam chain tensioner gasket to sort the oil leak. After looking at the gasket that came off it looks like it had never been changed. It literally fell apart after rob changed it over. Here is a picture of the engine with the rocker cover removed.

Now onto the joys of the FMIC

As the car was already tucked up in the BOB 4 garage he kindly removed the front bumper, headlights, crash bar & SMIC's in preparation for when me and nick arrived after work for us to crack on with the FMIC install :yahoo:

Here are a few pictures i managed to get during the install

The install went relatively smoothly with the help of Nick and Rob. Its always good to put a face to a name so here is Nick lol

Some of you may have seen Nicks picture on his thread already and as expected there are a few tiny issues with the boost hoses and clamps which will be tweaked over the next few days. Next on the list is the oil catch can installation.

Nice just need to tweak a few bit and sort your CatchCan setup and will be good to go.

Well its been a long couple of weeks, as mentioned earlier we encountered a few problems with boost hoses as well as the PCV system. It was just easier for me to take the s3 off the road whilst i sourced parts which allowed me to keep my front bumper off. Luckily i have a company car so i wasn't stuck without transport. Anyhow everything has now turned up and she will be back on the road this week if all goes to plan. The PCV pipework has been removed and is being replaced with a catch can setup. I have also got a new oil dip stick and holder tube as mine was brittle and starting to break up, i cleaned my jetex induction as the car was not being used and also managed to get my hands on plastic cover which sits near the inlet THANKS ROB! The fogs are now LED and my boost gauge surround is now flocked. Cant wait to get her back on the road, there is only so much of tdi estates i can take, on the plus side its still an audi :kissmyrings:

How much was your FMIC set up in total? and by the looks of it you didnt have to cut your crash bar as with most FMIC setups i've seen on here.
looking good though mate!

Cheers Will, The complete install came in at just under £200 which i think is very reasonable considering the forge kit is around the £800 mark. Suits my needs and setup perfectly.

looks wicked adam! glad you got your bits sorted :) yours and robs cars are like twins now!

Sounds spot on mate, £200 is more my budget! If you wouldn't mind could you write a quick list of the parts you bought for it?

Yeah no worries mate, we are currently tweaking the pipework at the moment so when it is all exactly how i want it i will pm you the list of bits i have used. :icon_thumright:

Cheers Tom, still fine tweaking the FMIC pipework at the moment. Its been a bit of trial and error getting rid of a nasty kink behind the drivers headlight, but fingers crossed we have found the solution now and should be sorted this week.

In the meantime i finally got round to installing my catch can setup.

hey adam

lovely work dude very neat. but from personal experience those catch cans really are a waste of money if its not baffled the thing just bypasses

Cheers Miggz,

All of the PCV pipework was completely shot and corroded so thought this was a good option to take. For the sake of £30 including all the pipework and fixings i didn't think it was too bad as it tidies up the bay nicely too.

yeah dude for sure and to replace all the pipes that were shot would cost 10x that
