    AUM how reliable??

    Hi guys,

Just after some of your thoughts and advice.

ive got a 2001 A3 aum, which i have owned for nearly 2years. fingers crossed i havent had any shock reliability problems withit although i did have to change the turbo last year and done a oil pump on it this year, but like i say nothing i wasnt expecting.

    I am currently running a stage 2 amd map @ 218bhp.

I am in the dilemna that i realy love the car...i want to spend money onit and see some mega power gains..(turbo upgrade) but i am not sure weather the engine is up to it as it has covered just under 160k.

i know every engine is different, and it all depends on how it has been treated but has anyone got any thoughts of the life expectency of the engine? some have said that these are good for 300k?

should i be looking at selling and getting a lower mileage one

Whats your definition of mega power? biggest problem with AUMs is the 19mm rods...

I got a AUM and I love it. At the end of the day if you want big power, agu or aum its advised to change rods anyway.as for tuning, they sem sound if taken care of properly.nick at r tech run some mad Shh on his aum and u think b5 has a aum engine in the lupo.personally with all the new gains with a ko4(xs mani and b5 tip) i would do rods for piece of mind and replace everything else that needs replacing. Once that's done, you pretty much have a new stronger engine.
    Word!!!

My A3/Martys Golf would smash that, and this guys £7000 GT9743 supercharged love machine.

My engine was on 216k at 300bhp when I removed it. Still going strong

If you're in any doubt, for about £500 you can whip the head off and fit rods bearings and piston rings all round
