groan as prob seen this before but I can't get the search engine to work.

currently on the long term AVS schdule so I think I have the 0w30 in the car which seems quite thin.

anyone used any other grade just for a litre top up?

halfords do stock the castrol SLX 2 0w 30 but also the 10w 40 and 5w 30 which might be better until next change,

Thinking of dumping the oil anyways as half way through and can only help.

Nick

I'm on AVS and use Mobil 1, not sure if this answers your question.

bought 2 x Castrol SLX 0w30 for my s3 from dealership for £30, as this is the recommended oil for AVS cars..

how much is it in comparison from halfords?

what problems are you having with 0w30 thats making you want to change?

Check the A3/S3 FAQ at the top of this forum!

Look under "General Maintenance" and you will find the info you need.

Don't use SLX2 as it is not 503.01 approved!

You can definately use SLX and Mobil1. Just for info, Mobil1 is 0 - 40.

Hope this helps
Rich.

no reason really guys just general availability as halfrods is out of stock but can wait.

sorry I meant to say SLX!!

it is 5 pounds cheaper for 1 litre so the stealer is stealing again!

prob bought all the stock from halfrods and added five pounds onto it for us lot!

AMD said that 0w30 is way too thin for road cars like the S3 and can cause excess wear when cold.

their opinion I gues but car is under warranty so will stick to what I have

if it goes bang then four circled stealer can pick up the tab thank you very much!!

Some 503.01 oils are:

Motul 8100 0w-40
Fuchs Supersyn SL 0w-30
Castrol SLX 0w-30
Mobil1 0w-40

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Simon

PS. Can do some deals on all of these if there is enough interest and the admins allow.
