Hi there,
the air conditioning of my A3 8L of 11/98 stopped working suddenly. When I switch the snowflake on, on a hot day, it's still warm air coming out of the vents.

Do you think it's more the AC liquid that needs to be refilled, or the compressor that might be broken?

Is there a way to narrow down the culprit before bringing the car to a garage?

Best regards,
Steve

Have a look in my thredd mate, (baffled and stuck) plenty of ideas to go thru as that's one of my probs.

Maybe its just a simple a/c service and re-gas mate! Works wonders! Does the a/c pump cut in when you turn it on?

Thanks for your comment. How can I check that or what should I notice?

Start the car up let it idle turn the a/c off, then set the temp to low, now turn the a/c on and you shod hear a loud "click" this is the a/c pump clutch cutting in.
But remember that if you don't have enough gas in the system the a/c wont turn on! So in fairness mate get it booked in for a re-gas before doing anything else!

Will do! Would you rather bring it to a Audi/VW garage, a Bosch Service Centre or an A/C specialist?

I am all in favour of having a re-gas service. However, with the cooler outside temperatures recently I find it difficult to demonstrate the problem to anybody, and even if some repair is done, to check for myself whether it was successful.

Therefore I wonder whether you think there would be any harm in waiting until next spring/summer before having the A/C serviced? Or could waiting aggravate problems?

Thanks
Steve
