I am wondering if there are any other turbos out there rather than my K04 that are readily available and equal or greater in power?! Also an easy install to the K04.

I will find out soon if it is just a damaged gasket first before shelling out good money on a new turbo but i am sure due to some smoking after being stationary for a bit that it may be goosed.

Thanks AGAIN in the assistance with advise in my never ending battle of boost leaks (now fixed) idle issues (now fixed) and ****** coil packs and maf sensor (again now fixed) :keule:

This is too open a question to answer mate...

There are loads of turbos out there... depends on what you are trying to do... a K04 hybrid is the 'bolt' on equvalent to the K04 you currently have ... but I use the term 'bolt on' loosely... it will bolt on physically as a direct replacement but you will need to change the injectors and a few other things to get the most out of it and of course get a custom map..

There are several thread here in 8L that cover everything from getting the most out of the std K04 (Westy's build) to extravagant engine builds (Andres@ALD's 2.1lt stroker) and few in between (Dane and Welly's hybrids, my GT3071 BT and a few others, Mush etc..)

Thanks again Tuffty

I realise this is a question of many choices but in the short i am looking to get this done on the cheep

Changing slash replacing this is not a problem to me but seeing as a fault code will not show up due to a gasket leak im stumped on if it is this lol

'Cheap' is a new K04... anything else will cost more money...

The quest for more power will require you to have stage 2 type prerequisites (FMIC, 3" DP etc) and to get the best then a Badger5 TIP and filter of your choice... this stage 2 setup generally nets 270hp to 280hp depending on the health of the engine... if you had all this in place and wanted the 'next stage' then a hybrid K04, rods, relentless (proven for power) or JBS manifold (as yet not really proven), larger injectors and a custom map... that should see you safely to the 310/320 hp mark

Ok so i am not looking to gain much more power. Just a propperly boosting car would be nice. I have noticed that it seems to be getting worse as time goes on. prob best to get some new gaskets and see how it looks from there. Is it an easy enough job to replace the turbo seals? as in no real specialist equipment required?!

New K04's or refurb ones aren't that expensive tbh mate... turbo seals would arguably require the cartridge to be rebalanced... considering the potential for wear and hotside cracking I would just get a new turbo
