Hello everyone

Got a few problems that have appeared recently........making my car feel awful to drive

1st one is when I'm driving i can feel a bit of movement through the steering wheel whilst driving. Especially when steering ever so slightly to the left when going over bumps and lumps in the road. It is gradually getting worse

2nd thing is......My car idles really badly. Its very rough and lumpy. Feels more like I'm sitting in a tractor thats running on jackhammers. Can even hear the engine vibrating etc. Especially when running cold.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Cheers

hello mate, first thing to do is check the front suspension for play/movement, start with the bottom ball joints, check the track rod ends etc, just jack the car up, grab the wheel and give it side to side wobble and an up and down one etc.

as for the rough idle, the first thing to do is check for air/boost leaks and have it scanned and smoke tested to, while your checking it out, have a look at the throttle body to and make sure its not carboned up etc

awesome!! thanks Gregor!!

Will jack the car up tomorrow eve!! I have not long had coil overs fitted so could this cause some other parts to fail/have movement etc?

Will get it booked in at my local VAG specialists

Cheers

fitting coil overs changes the geometry of the fron suspension completely, the lower arms end up at a different angle, my money is on the lower arm rear bush coming adrift, but cant confirm without seeing it! My pal had a mk4 gti, he fitted coilovers and within a few weeks the rear lower arm bushes had fell out, mainly because the lower arms are now working at different angles!

I have a similar problem with my car feeling floaty, there is movement in my ball joint on passenger side, I'm changing both ball joints wishbone track rod ends and drop links on mine as they all look a little tired.

Mine puls left also so hoping once parts are fitted and re aligned it sorts it.

The other day when I started my car up after not driving it for a week-10 days and parked so two wheel were on a kerb other two on the road mine idle'd a little lumpy, my water was a little low topped it up and all was ok after? Worth a look/try hope this helps out a bit

Yes I know it sounds wierd but I'm just going by my experience but after putting water into it as it was very low it idle'd/ran fine
