bonnet release cable snapped

hello, mate of mine has an a3 (pre-facelift) and the bonnet release cable has snapped. is there an easy way to open the bonnet? the cable seems so have snapped off at the bonnet catch end
the grille has been removed before and the clips are broken i was wondering if it can be done from here? any ideas much appreciated

Not really something thats designed to be easy to get into under those circumstances tbh... its also not something I would be overly happy about being discussed in an open forum giving people ideas on how to get into cars...

Here is a pic of the front end of an S3 (same as the A3 in this respect)... as you can see even with the grille off its still pretty secure..
