    Finally, I have accepted my need for bigger brakes....

    As title, many of you will now be glad to hear I have decided it's time to put some bigger anchors up front.

    I have now warped my 6th pair of discs this year....(various brands tested) which has made me decide to change them. So far that's approx £720 in discs this year. Seems daft when you look back... lol.

    Am in the process of buying some Leon Cupra Brembos.

    I thought that, before I go and whang more power through it, I may need to turn my attention to stopping a bit better.

    Well thank the bloody lord for that! about time Wellyboots!

    One question though: do you really think you'll be able to stop any quicker with bigger brakes? Surely the wanli sunny ling long ditch finder pros will stop you from actually pulling up any faster?

    I'll have you know my Event tyres are actually impressively good to be fair.

    Also, to be honest, no I probably won't stop any faster anyway - the single piston slider OEMs actually stop me very quickly - they just eat the discs doing it sadly.

    Great news Welly, and I can now say the LCR's are a very nice upgrade.

    Next thing to peer pressure you in to is good tyres and 500+bhp.

    Warped disks are usually not warped at all, but the result of uneven pad deposits forming hard areas on the disk surface...

    The 206 beast? Still have it, but it's a nail to be fair. Not sure I want 2 cars either.

    Your straight edge might, but the "warp" isnt usually from the metal bending, its from uneven pad deposits causing harder areas of steel to form in the disks surface, which then wears at a different rate.

    Tell tale signs are pad outlines visible on the disk surface.

    Have a read of this:

    Interesting....

    However, the bottom line remains the same.... they no longer work as brake discs and require replacement.

    Yes, but if you read the article you'll see that you can avoid it from happening by bedding the brakes in properly, and not holding the car on the brakes when they are hot.

    The fact that you've done n sets of disks over the last year suggests to me that you keep doing the same thing to them to cause the pad deposits. If you dont fix whatever it is thats causing the deposits, the issue will probably continue on the brembos.

    Thank you for your input there Kev. Have you considered going on mastermind with your specialist subject being stating the obvious?

    I am well aware of the fairly simple brake bedding procedure, which I do complete with every new set of discs. Religiously.

    I also deliberately use the handbrake when stationary following any heavy stopping to traffic lights for example. Religiously.

    I feel that, rather it being my ineptitude with regard to my ability to operate brakes, it may be my driving style which causes the issue. Which is fine, and I accept. Stopping for a set of traffic lights on a private road from upwards of 140 MPH a few times a week does tend to have an adverse effect on brake discs.

    Having said that, I know that deep down you only have my best interests at heart...

    Yes I am mate. A really noticeable difference. More responsive for general driving and a massive improvement when braking down from triple figures over 2 or 3 dual carriageway to roundabout sections.

    Only used some basic fluid mate as didn't get time to order any of the rbf stuff, but seems to be fine.

    Not as snatchy as I imagined they would be, but this is a good thing. And they look good too.

    Ling Lang ditch finders make driving the S3 interesting. My braking has definitely been effected dramatically since fitting Info tyres.

    welly, do you reallllly think an M3, an S4 and an 8P S3 will be significantly cheaper to run to justify selling bumble??

    Im probably missing the point and if I am I apologise but if you're thinking of selling the bumble early next year on the grounds that shes costing you a klondike, why spend a small one on uprated brakes?

    No, thats a fair question. A few things, but mainly because otherwise she will feel unfinished to a certain degree. That may seem a bit daft, but I also want to up the power and cant justify doing so on the current brake setup.

    Was going to post that link haha. Many people will sit on the brakes after a long braking stint which won't help matters...

    or just maybe.... just maybe..... 440bhp and 312mm disks on a 1500+kg S3 driven by his "Wellyness" (welly by name, welly by nature) is simply over heating the one piece disks/pads etc etc etc


    312mm disks will never dissipate the heat well enough = damage

    Pretty obvious in this scenario

    I brad a lcr few years back running performance friction pads and I could not get brake fade...expensive but superb aswell
    A4 TDI 130 SPORT..
    now sold but still in the family, gone back in time to the cupra R again..
