I changed the sparkplugs this evening. Put in NGK Iridiums BKR6EIX. The original ones looked like the NGK Is, but with Audi 4 rings on the insulator. They were dry, no oil, grey ish in colour. The tip is about half worn compared to the new ones.

Does it mean that I need to put in cooler plugs ?

Also I had to take off a small black box that was obscuring the 3rd and 4th coilpack, that doesn't look like it's doing much, it has a pipe coming out of it and connects to a rat's nest of pipes connected to a electrically operated valve.

Whats the black box for ? Valve ?
Is it for emissions ? Is it part of the EGR ? Can it be removed ?

Also I broke the clip on the coil pack connector :-( I reckon they're made from Jacob's finest.

It was well worth changing the plugs, much smoother. Car is slightly faster, but that might be the cool night air though.

Hi mate,

That small black box and "rat's nest of pipes" as you so rightly put it is a vacuum chamber, all part of the N249 sensor system. Yes it can be removed, plenty of guides on here - check out the sticky for N249 delete.

Cheers,
Aran

yes I do have a BAM engine - means I don't even need a T-piece?
1m of 4mm silicone tubing it is then.
Cheers Bob
