when i got the car the temp never sat at 90 it sat at 70 ish .i then replaced stat with a new genuine one and that made the car run at 85 ish and the fan always cuts in at 90.last night i noticed the temp drop and run at 75-80 and the fan cutting in at 85.the temp sensor came up at fault on vag-com about a week before this change in temp had happened.im thinking the symptoms point towards the stat again as that controlls the running temp. but can they be known to fail only after 3 month??

I've had aftermarket ones fail in that sort of time frame, i wouldnt have thaught a genuine one would though.

If you have climate control you can view the live temperature.

If the stat is faulty, the ECU will often log a "Coolant Temperature Sensor: Implausible Signal" as it expects to see the car reach normal temperature within a set period, and if it doesnt, it logs that code.

Might be worth sticking a new coolant sensor in it just to be sure though.

no climate control:( could the cts sensor cause the bother im having?just looked in history and its a cheap chatty sensor been fitted.

i will do when payday comes lol. just hope its not the stat again.
