    What dyno to belive

    I had my A3 dynoed a few days after exaust fitment. The result was underwhelming. It was dynoed at 205 back when i had it remapped, long before any exaust. (Maxeffect = Hp, Maxmoment = Torque)

    Disappointed, i went to the shop that did the remap, and he offered me a free dyno test to see what was up. Well it came out quite different.

    His explanation was that first of all, the dyno itself the other shop is using, is considered outdated, and that the blower or whatever its called (The cooler they put in front of the car), was too small. The one he himself was using, was actually massive. Atleast 3 times as big.

    Its not thats its really that important, because the car is really fast now, but those 2 results are quite different, and i have no idea what to belive.

    The car is an A3 1.8T AUM 150hp model with a remap, turboback milltek, GFB recirc valve and a pipercross panel filter. Nothing else has been done to it.

    Believe none; that way you won't agonise over something that is largely unimportant.

    By all means use a rolling road to tune a car that isn't running right / optimally, but the inconsistency in the way these things are operated and work is why the phrase dyno lottery exists.

    I'd be looking at the airflow and seeing what it's reading mate.

    At the end of the day, if you're happy with it then that's all that matters. there is always a bit of a dyno lottery, some read high, some read low.

    Looking at Mass airflow, and dividing the value by 0.8 often gives a good indication of bhp.

    Air on the first pic reads:

    Airpressure: 1011mb
    Airtemp: 29c
    Airmoisture: 65%

    Thats the direct translation, not sure if thats the correct technical terms in english.

    He means the Airflow as measured by your engines ECU.

    You need to do some logging with Vagcom/VCDS and see what airflow figures its reporting.

    Oh. Well thats not happening any time soon, unless i somehow get my hands on a really cheap cable from china.

    Believe the highest mate, to be honest if any dyno said my car made 300bhp on a standard map i'd believe it hahaha

    Take your engine out and fit it to a engine dyno SuperFlow Engine Dynamometer with this you will get a very accurate reading

    if you like to find out what power your engine is making at the wheel then you need to get it on a hub dyno

    Chinese cable should work fine.

    Rolling roads are very good tuning tool, they are not very good to test power outputs due to the multitude of influencing factors.

    The best way is using a flat piece of road, and measuring the time it takes to accelerate between two speeds. You get a true reflection of real world performance.

    Is the MAF /0.8 ALWAYS a true indication?
    Regardless of engine mods and spec?
