5w-30 or 5w40??? 1.8 non-turbo petrol

Hi folks.

Need to top up my girlfriends A3, which oil type should we use?

Once we've had it a while we will do a full change but what top-up for now?

Anything will work in it as long as it's just for a top up and short while ! I would buy 5L of 5w40 fully synthetic and top up with that, use the rest for the oil change !

i'd probably use 10w40 semi-synth in a NA 1.8, but if you goto a decent factors you can probably buy 5w40 fully synth for not-much-more, so use that if you fancy.

Change it now, rather than topping up. It'll take you half an hour and you know its fresh then.
